Barbara O'Neill & Dr. Josh Axe - How to Wreck Your Health in One Podcast @Dr. Josh Axe
Watch on YouTube · 2026-02-09 · 37 min
0:00 Hey, some of you guys were asking me to make a video about Barbara O'Neill. She recently did a podcast together with Dr. Josh Axe. That's what I'll be reviewing.
[video] 0:12 Now, there are some women that have never been on the pill, neither their mother. So then we're looking elsewhere and we've got environmental poisons. In the molecular structure of estrogen, there's a phenyl...
0:23 she mentions the molecular structure of estrogen this has never been observed there are indirect measurements and interpretations of chemicals which have been treated with all kinds of toxic substances and then you can try to interpret what you're seeing with the tools which only interpret data, but you cannot take a blood sample, for example, and then look at the molecular structure of estrogen. Maybe she believes that.
[video] 1:05 And the plastic softening chemical that's in nearly every plastic bottle, that's in cars, in the dashboard, it's all got a phenol in it. One's bisphenol A, another one is nonophenol. Yeah. Also great stimulants in chickens, it's in the chicken, it's in the egg, in cattle, and cleaning products people are using, chemical fabrics. So I've got woolen skirt, I have got woolen top.
1:29 That's great. Wear more natural materials, but
1:36 do not talk about something which has never been observed do not base your beliefs on that and ideally talk about science facts knowledge instead of any kind of beliefs what are some of the things that you start to recommend women do to bring their hormones back into balance
[video] 1:58 Now, you asked me, first of all, what was my journey. There was another part of my journey is when I became a Christian. I became a Christian at the age of about 26, 27, and I discovered health from the Bible.
2:09 This should actually tell you everything. Wait, did she say that she discovered health from the Bible?
[video] 2:15 And there's a verse in there, it's Psalm 104, verse 14.
2:19 Very interesting. She even bases a lot on verses from the Bible.
2:26 She reads, memorizes what she read, and then she makes videos about the topics. She also does lectures. My point is that this is a human being who bases everything on religious beliefs. This is what a lot of people do today. It's not even mostly Christians or any kind of religious people who do that. People who officially call themselves religious. It's so-called regular people who constantly talk about some articles or studies that they read. Correlation association studies. Nothing scientific. It's all based on what you read.
[video] 3:14 that God gave herbs for the service of man. I love that verse, the service. I'm here to serve you. Where would you go?
3:21 Right, the bitter, poisonous herbs. Go on.
[video] 3:25 Do you like me? What would you have me do? Whereas drugs, they're like robots. Get out of my way. That's right. I've got a job to do.
3:33 She's saying that the poisonous plants, which she also partly consumes, will choose what they will do in your body, as if chemicals choose that. Yeah. Where is the proof for this religious belief? When we consume something toxic, then it enters our body, and sure, different toxins do different things, but we can all agree that they are harmful in different ways. They don't choose anything. When you consume a bitter herb, then it's going to harm you in some way. Does it really matter how it's going to harm you?
4:20 It's not going to navigate through your body and find bad chemicals or whatever she's trying to say and eliminate them instead of your healthy tissues.
[video] 4:36 To do something the body doesn't want to do. I've got a job to do whether you need it or not. So see and mark difference. The wild yam contains a plant chemical called diostinin. And when that... wild yam is made into an oil-based cream, and that cream is applied to the skin. The fat cells take it up, and it stimulates the biochemical pathway in the body that the body uses to make progesterone. Yeah, wow.
4:58 You really, really need to understand something here. What she's talking about right now has never been proven. It has never been observed. I hope that's needless to say. She is completely making it up. Am I saying that she herself made it up? No, but she's still lying to you. I'm not saying that she's lying to you on purpose. Consciously, what I'm saying is that She's talking absolute nonsense and she's doing that because she read about it somewhere or maybe she watched some videos and this is what a lot of people do today. And then she goes on this podcast and talks about it. That's it.
5:38 it's the same as reading the bible you read something and then you believe it you read that the molecular structure of estrogen looks like this and then you go on a podcast and say it out loud and everything that she just said is also made up the chemicals
[video] 6:00 Everything about the fat cells How they go into the skin and do this and that this cannot be proven this is based on a Belief when you consider that 70% of our immune system is established by our gut flora We want we want that gut flora The good news is there are some cultured foods that you can take and that will help to boost it like sauerkraut kimchi
6:26 Kimchi. Kimchi usually includes garlic, ginger, all kinds of poisonous plants. That's not good for your gut flora.
[video] 6:39 Bok choy that's often made also into a sauerkraut. Sauerkrauts are good. And miso is another one. Kefir, yogurts. You can get some nice plant-based yogurts now. They all help to...
6:54 Wait, what? Plant-based yogurts? Yogurts from a store are bad enough today. They have toxic synthetic vitamins added to them. They are pasteurized anyway. There is no proof that they are actually good for you in any way. You can argue about normal fermented milk, sure, but not that garbage.
[video] 7:23 Restore gut flora, but what feeds gut flora is prebiotics and prebiotic is fiber Yeah, and the more variety in fiber you have the more gut flora you're going to feed for instance again based on nothing just beliefs She can have ten different types of apples and they will feed ten different types of gut flora How are you going to prove this?
7:50 These are just religious beliefs How can fiber, the indigestible part of a plant, fruit be good for your gut? She doesn't even talk about raw animal foods, organs, what humans eat in nature, actually healthy food for your gut, no. So man-made plants which don't even exist in nature or fruits.
[video] 8:19 Isn't that incredible?
8:20 It is amazing.
[video] 8:21 It's so amazing. Yes, I love that.
8:24 They're both religious. They really are. He is officially also religious. And of course, that's why they believe whatever they are told. It makes sense. She talks about her religious beliefs and then he says, yes, it's amazing. And when he listens to a priest saying something, then he also says that it's amazing. Praise the Lord.
[video] 8:52 Variety is the spice of life. Variety is the spice of life to our gut. Yeah, that's right. Variety in the vegetable kingdom. That's right. I love that. It's so powerful. Yeah, I mean, the gut microbiome is something... Makes no sense.
9:05 She completely ignores that the plants are bitter, poisonous, which is obviously bad for your gut flora, but then talks about the fiber, and there's no proof for these claims. It's crazy.
[video] 9:23 One of the other things I've heard you talk about is certain natural plants and their benefits. As I was watching a video of you earlier, you were talking about the benefits of things like, I want to say, aloe and certain other herbals. Share with us some of your favorite herbals and plant-based medicines for helping heal the gut. Well, when you open an aloe vera plant, it's slimy. And if you look at the inside of your lip, it's slimy. It's the same.
9:44 how is it the same aloe vera is poisonous you cannot eat it what does it have to do with a human or any animal's body exactly that aloe vera contains a growth stimulant and it stimulates rapid healing again religious belief
[video] 10:06 in the lining of the gut now our gut cells are remade every three to five days so prove that this video is ridiculous with gut problems you can heal them quite quickly once the right condition is given but you've got to remember that the gut has memory so you've got to change that around a bit so how do you take the aloe vera because it's actually not very nice to eat
10:30 yeah exactly some people will put it in a smoothie you can scrape the gel as always put the toxic bitter plants in a smoothie together with apples and bananas so that you don't taste them and that makes sense to you This is what happens when you religiously follow some kind of guidelines, rules, what other people say instead of listening to your body.
[video] 10:59 And mash it up and put it with a little apple juice mainly. So it'll coat and soothe. Great for a sore throat. Great for ulcer in the stomach. Great for irritable bowel. All the way down. It's great.
11:11 How? How can it do that if you cover up the taste? How can something bitter be good for your gut? How does it make sense?
[video] 11:22 What are some of the benefits of fasting? Is that something that you ever recommend for anyone you're working with or for overall health? Well, at our health retreat in Australia, Misty Mountain Health Retreat, guests come in for either one week or two weeks. They come in on a Sunday. We give them a beautiful meal. And then in the afternoon, they have a steamed sauna and we just serve them a thin soup at night. And then Monday, Tuesday are juicing days. And every two hours, we serve a fresh vegetable, light fruit juice. So the first two days are fasting days. And...
11:50 These so-called fasting retreats are places where people starve themselves with supervision. That's it.
[video] 11:59 They steam-sorn at the end of every day because that stimulates their skin to throw off more waste. We find that it's very effective because the stomach is very happy when it gets a little rest.
12:13 The stomach is happy when it gets rest. Why? Because you're eating man-made plants. They are poisonous. The fiber is bad for your gut. That's why you need this rest. Because if you eat raw meat, any kind of raw animal foods, then you don't even feel them in your stomach. It's as if you're always fasting, in the sense that your gut always feels good. It never feels as if you have food in your gut because that's how it's supposed to be when you eat natural food. Even when you eat cooked meat, you feel it in your gut because an unnatural substance has entered your gut.
[video] 13:00 And we say to our guests, you couldn't eat in a day what we put in your juices.
13:05 So what we do is we nutritionally... You couldn't eat it at all, such as aloe vera. Can you eat it? Can you take the plant and eat it?
[video] 13:14 Support the body. We nutritionally support the liver to effectively detoxify them. Because when you're not eating solid food, it takes about 1200 calories to digest a meal.
13:25 It all sounds nice. We detox your liver. Come here. pay tons of money, which they probably do for these retreats, but can you prove this? It's all cool on paper, but in reality, it will never happen. You will probably poison your liver.
[video] 13:47 So when you're not digesting the meal, then the body's looking around for something to do. So it'll go to the parts of the body with the greatest need. And that's the theory as to why it's being used.
13:59 The theory. It's not even a theory. A theory still has to be based on something factual. As I said, this is at the very best a hypothesis, but I wouldn't call it that. Pretty much everything that she's talking about is based on her religious beliefs. Let's look at her. She's 72 years old. Gray hairs. Okay, that's normal nowadays. Then we have sunspots. All right, maybe she was out in the sun for too long. That also happened to me around 10 years ago when I overdid it.
14:41 Dark eye circles, alright, whatever. She was exposed to some stress. It happens. But then you have all of these weird red spots, eczema. And if you're gonna say that she's 72, then I will say shut up because that's a bad argument. You can see people who are 90, 100 who have healthy skin as long as they eat healthy food. She has been eating poisonous plants and that's what you're seeing here. I wouldn't say that she looks 72.
15:21 When I see her, I would say that she is in her 80s at the very least, if not even 90s because I've seen people who look Pretty much just like her. Even at around 100 years. I'm not overreacting. You can let me know what you think, but I don't think that she's healthy. And I don't think that you should be listening to her when it comes to health advice, because clearly what she's doing is not working.
[video] 15:52 You see, drugs never cure disease. And some might say, well, Barbara, can you really say never? You can say never, because they only mask symptoms. It's the body, and the body alone is the only...
16:05 Okay, this is the only correct thing that she said so far. Drugs are created to mask and suppress the symptoms. That's also not really a secret. People understand that nowadays, although a lot of people don't, I suppose.
[video] 16:28 The only thing that has the capacity to heal. Now,
16:32 Right, you simply need to eat natural food, you should go out into the sun and your body will heal. Your body doesn't heal because of something that comes from the outside, the food comes from the outside, but it will still be the body itself at the end of the day that will heal it. It simply needs to be full of energy, vitality, healthy. And then you heal whatever problems you have.
[video] 17:04 Water treatments work with the body. Herbs work with the body, but it's the...
17:10 Doesn't make any sense. Herbs do not work with the body if your body fights against them.
[video] 17:17 Body that does the healing, but it will heal when you give the right conditions.
17:22 Right, the right conditions. That's well said.
[video] 17:26 The drugs, they don't work with the body. They mask the symptoms. And so the people think...
17:31 That's exactly what herbs are known for and originally a lot of the medications were actually created from herbs.
[video] 17:43 I think, oh, this is helping because I don't have a headache anymore. I don't have a bad rash anymore. But then I realize they've just pushed it further in the body. It's going to come out again. That's right. Yeah, I think one thing people don't realize too.
17:56 It's true, but she doesn't give any actual good advice. She doesn't tell people how to actually heal.
[video] 18:04 The point is that drugs essentially are forcing your body to do actually something it doesn't want to do. That's right. It's forcing it. Vitamins, minerals, herbs.
18:13 Yes, such as when you suppress your fever. You have the fever for a reason. It's a healing mechanism.
[video] 18:22 Herbals are changing your environment. Vitamins and minerals are giving your body just the tools it needs to heal itself. I was really blessed to learn this principle. Food doesn't actually heal you. Broccoli, turmeric, none of it heals you. Your body heals itself.
18:36 Turmeric and broccoli cannot heal you anyway because broccoli is a poisonous flower. If you don't believe me, try eating it in its raw state.
[video] 18:47 He stopped his nightly red wine, stopped his coffee, started to go more plant-based, exercise, so all of them.
18:54 He stopped the red wine, coffee, which is good, but then he also started eating more plant-based. The reason coffee is bad is because it's made out of toxic seeds. Seeds, plants are not good for you. They are bitter, hard to eat. They are not made for your body in any way. She talks about red wine and coffee as if it's bad, and that's true, but then at the same time says that it's good to go plant-based. It doesn't make any sense. And of course, she also mentions exercise. Chronic stress. This is what you need, guys. Eat bitter, hard-to-digest plants, and then have a lot of chronic stress.
19:48 if you want to look like her at 72 then go for it the basic laws of health The basic laws of health, the laws, yes. And the laws of nature, so to speak, those we just ignore. Yeah, that's how we should live our lives. Just focus on religious beliefs, something that cannot be proven, your Bible, your association studies, some articles written by random people, and ignore your body, your senses, your intuition,
[video] 20:24 We got an email 10 months later, breasts have gone down, hot flashes have stopped, testosterone levels are the best they've been.
20:32 Yes, because he starved himself, most likely, if he was eating plant-based. And again, testosterone, same as estrogen, has never been observed as such. There are no little balls flying around in your bloodstream or coming out of your testicles. That's a different topic. It's a deeper one. But when it comes to the actual structure and what you imagine, then it really is just an imagination. And when you do these tests, then you're doing very indirect tests based on interpretations. That's it. You're interpreting. the chemicals and then you look at the response that these substances have when you combine them with other chemicals and then you have your testosterone levels. Actually really a joke when you understand how they test your testosterone.
[video] 21:29 What do you think are maybe three or so of the biggest mistakes people are making that they're just totally unaware of that's really harming their health? I think a really big mistake is thinking that coffee and tea are hydrating them. So every morning when we go to the hotel to have breakfast, they say, will you have tea or coffee? No.
[video] 21:46 Yes, that's strange.
21:49 Not drinking toxic drinks is strange today. And if you would say that you brought your own blood, then maybe they would kick you out. Who knows? That's how it is today. Everything that's natural is seen as strange. And everything that's bad for you, poisonous, is seen as normal.
[video] 22:14 cup upside down. Because I would say we are probably the only ones there not having tea or coffee. What will you have to drink? Well, we've already drank a lot of water. So that misconception.
22:26 Water also doesn't really hydrate you. It's better. But if you drink a lot of water, you will simply pee everything out.
[video] 22:38 and that tea and coffee are hydrating, they're actually dehydrating you. If you are dehydrated and you drink a cup of coffee, you'll be more dehydrated after that because coffee has caffeine, which is a dehydrator. You put sugar in that, another dehydrator. You drink tea, not as much caffeine, but it's got tannin, another dehydrator.
22:56 It's interesting that she talks about all of this, but at the same time she also promotes castor oil. Castor oil comes from the seeds of ricinus, a plant, and the ricin, the poison, comes from the same plant. It's not the same, castor oil and ricin, I'm not saying that, but still, it should be mentioned that she promotes a lot of toxic plants. A lot of toxic substances in general Yet she speaks out against some others But overall what she promotes is still bad for your health Wow So that's a real misconception Another misconception is exercises for children But children don't exercise. There's no recorded cases of children ever exercising. Ever.
[video] 23:57 We should never stop. Never stop.
24:00 What I mean is that, of course, nowadays, as you could see in my video about the child who ran a marathon, the parents will manipulate and essentially force the children to exercise. That's clear. But children on their own would never exercise. Nobody ever runs for no reason. Nobody lifts weights for no reason, just nothing.
[video] 24:26 Stagnant pools breed disease and stagnant bodies, that's a big disease, produce it. The body's just not moving. We need to move everything.
24:37 Yes, move, but moving has nothing to do with exercise. If you lay for a while, then you want to move, but nobody wants to exercise. Nobody has ever said that they want to chronically stress themselves and exhaust themselves, but everybody wants to move. There's no relation between moving and exercise.
[video] 25:02 Every day. Muscle knows no age. Whether you're 9 or 90, you can have strong muscles. So that's another misconception.
25:10 Maybe that's how she aged herself so badly. I didn't know that she promotes exercise. It makes sense.
[video] 25:18 You talk a lot about food as medicine. You talk a lot about herbs as medicine. Let's start with food here. What are some of your favorite foods that people can start eating that act as a form of medicine for the body? Well, I know people often say to me, what are we going to feed you? I said, just feed me greens and beans. I love greens and beans. And a lot of people get put off them.
25:35 That is absolutely insane because you cannot eat green leaves, any kind of plants and beans, seeds in their natural state. How could it possibly be healthy for you? it's starvation food it's what people ate during famines when they had no other food then they collected green plants seeds they cooked them and tried to eat them and that's why your stomach always hurts after you eat that it's not food that is designed for your body the beans
[video] 26:15 Because they say they give the wind. Well, are they soaked? Are they very well rinsed?
26:22 Yes, exactly. You need to process them to eat them. And even then, they will still be bad for you. You will still create a lot of gas in response to the indigestible toxic seeds.
[video] 26:36 Are they prepared properly? And if they still give wind, we're going to start real slow.
26:41 How can that be good food? Shouldn't you come to the logical conclusion that healthy food is food that you can eat in its raw, natural state? You hunt down an animal and you eat it. It's what all humans in nature do. You drink the blood, you eat the liver, the brain, bone marrow. That's healthy. That's good for your gut. This is nonsense.
[video] 27:07 and slowly build the microorganisms up in our gut for that particular religious belief, all based on religious beliefs. The most referenced foods in the Bible are, I mean, sourdough bread is very, very high up there. Red meat is actually very high as part of Solomon's provisions.
27:27 Red meat is high and that doesn't make you think?
[video] 27:30 Vegetables pomegranates are the most reference fruit along with figs and grapes.
27:34 And so I mean these are all things that are salt honey Is you know a reference olive oil, you know referenced so many times but olive oil huge a man He was a Christian and it was a church one day and he said this actually sums up everything It shows you that they base everything on religious beliefs Whether they come from the Bible or not doesn't matter they read something and then they believe it and
[video] 28:00 You're wrong on the oils. We shouldn't be eating it. I said you need to do a Bible study on olive oil.
28:05 That's right. What would that prove? Bread is also super bad for you. And back in the day, bread used to mean meat. And the Bible has been edited a million times. Who knows what they even used to mean when they said bread back then.
[video] 28:22 I would almost say one thing almost everybody can agree on, both vegan and carnivore and whatever, almost everybody agrees that olive oil is the best oil.
28:31 No, olive oil is one of the worst oils. What is good about it? It comes from toxic fruits. Olives are toxic, bitter, and oftentimes the seeds are processed into the oil when they create olive oil. And even if you buy some very... Luxurious olive oil then you will still be consuming the toxins from the fruits even if the seeds Were not processed into the oil Whatever the case you're consuming a toxic substance.
[video] 29:09 Oh, yeah. Yeah, there's There's no doubt about that. It's very important something.
29:13 There's a lot of doubt Can you drink olive oil straight from the bottle? You can maybe tolerate A teaspoon, a tablespoon. But not more than that. Why? Because it's not good for you. It's made out of toxic fruits. It's horrible.
[video] 29:38 Very interesting about lectins. If you've got good gut flora, disarms the lectins.
29:44 Again, religious belief can never be proven. She ignores that olive oil tastes horrible, that your intuition tells you that it's bad for you, and instead talks about her religious beliefs. Yeah, it disarms the lectins. Where's the proof for this, Barbara? Well, you know, I'll call... Oops, that's American.
[video] 30:10 So I thought, well, we don't need to throw vegetables out. We just need to ensure good gut flora and to prepare our food properly. Like Sally Fallon in her book, Nourishing Traditions, she explores all the traditional ways, the long slow...
30:22 But traditional is not natural. That should be understood. Traditional doesn't mean that it's good for you.
[video] 30:31 Cooking on the wood stove the rinsing.
30:33 Well the sourdough culturing of the grains Who cares it's slime made out of seeds people used to eat that when they had no food If you prepare your food properly no problem with lectins, yeah There's no need to prepare some kind of slime made out of seeds Why would you at all? eat normal natural food in its raw state and
[video] 31:01 What are some of your favorite herbs that you recommend most commonly for various imbalances?
31:08 Does Dr. Josh X have some eczema here, or what is that?
[video] 31:12 Well, you mentioned the gut, and certainly the slippery arm. We advocate that for...
31:19 Her gut is probably destroyed. You can see that. The skin always shows you the truth.
[video] 31:25 Any diarrhea, so irritable bowel, Crohn's disease, colitis, ulcerative colitis, all of that, that helps an enormous amount. But I also look at boosting hydrochloric acid. In fact, in my book, Self-Healed by Design, I've got a chapter. It's called Hydrochloric Acid, The Stomach's Secret. Wow, yeah. Because hydrochloric acid is so important. It not only plays an important part in breaking our protein down. So it's one thing to eat protein. It's another thing to break it down. So low hydrochloric acid can... can be responsible for not breaking down the protein properly. Plus, it's also antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial.
32:00 Antibacterial is bad. It means that it's poisonous. It kills them. Antibacterial just means anti-life. It's an antibiotic. She promotes poisonous substances.
[video] 32:21 So I look at boosting that and we've got a great herbal mix. It's got gentian and ginger and dandelion and golden seal. Just a little golden seal.
32:36 Just a little because too much will cause severe problems.
[video] 32:42 one of my favorite herbs it's called king of tonics to all mucous membranes i love that so you can sniff it for sinus you can rinse your mouth with it it'll help a stomach ulcer it'll help to heal but you cannot eat a lot of it because if you would then you would throw up or you would be hospitalized So we put all those bitter herbs in and make a tea out of it. We gently simmer it.
33:10 Bitter herbs, then you make a tea out of it, and then you do what? Add something sweet to it?
[video] 33:18 And all the guests that come to Misty Mountain, they get a little cup of that hot just before each meal. Because I find everyone can do with a boost to their hydrochloric acid.
33:30 Well, that's so good. But that just means that your body has problems digesting it. You have digestive issues. That's all that it would mean. That's not a good sign.
[video] 33:43 I had a patient come in recently. I was working with him, and he came in, and his vitamin D levels were incredibly low on his blood work. And he was supplementing with vitamin D, lots of it, and he still wasn't getting it. And part of the problem was is that he wasn't absorbing it because of bile, right? His liver, his gallbladder weren't producing enough bile. And that's another thing people don't know about these bitters is the importance of helping liver and gallbladder. And this fat-free diet. It's the worst. Oh, the worst in the world. The poor old... The poor old liver and gallbladder, they weren't doing anything because there's no fat to make any bile. Well, I know in the Western world, all the emphasis, like most everybody is sweet and salty, right? But it's bitter and sour that have most of these medicinal benefits. They do. And there's an old saying, bitter to the mouth, sweet to the stomach, sweet to the liver, sweet to the mouth, bitter to the stomach, bitter to the liver.
34:27 Totally counterintuitive. She's saying the opposite of the truth. And they also talk about vitamin D supplements. That's rat poison. I have made a video about it in case you haven't seen it. I will link it. They talk about rat poison, poisonous herbs, as if it's normal. Just take some here and there. Bitter is good for you. Sweet is bad for you. Literally the opposite. Absolutely nuts, actually.
[video] 35:01 All your liver herbs are bitter herbs. So that digestive tea mix, we affectionately call it dig tea. Oh, yeah. And we make up a whole batch of it and heat it up.
35:12 One of the worst podcasts that I've ever seen. She's right that modern medicine is all about suppressing your symptoms. And she's also right that tea and coffee dehydrates you, but that's about it. She teaches people to live counter-intuitively. You taste something bitter? Swallow it. It's good for you. Ignore your nature. Yourself. Listen to me. I know the truth. This is our religious mindset. It's all about you reading something, listening to somebody else, and then accepting those beliefs. Instead of
35:57 Listening to every sense of your body. It doesn't matter what we are talking about. People live like this in general today, not only when it comes to food.
36:13 She became religious, and I put that in quotes because you never actually become religious. you don't become a Christian you start believing in the texts that you read and then you believe in Christianity you are a natural animal that's supposed to eat raw meat you're supposed to drink blood and that will never change no matter what beliefs you adapt. She believes that she is somebody else now. And when you have this kind of a mindset, then you will go through life ignoring your intuition and believing other people. This can only lead to an unhealthy body. Thanks for watching.
