[video] 0:00 I'm Alain, I'm from Holland and I'm an ex-vegan.
0:05 Yeah, when did you get into veganism and how did you get into it?
[video] 0:10 Well, in 2008 I had a stomach bleeding in Paris and that's when I started looking into food, you know. I got real sensitive to food, so when I ate an apple it was really... Fast energy, you know, easy to digest. And chicken took me a lot of energy to digest. Probably because of my stomach that was wrong, you know. So after that I started looking into it and I started going more to plant-based foods and stuff. But it's a process on the way, you know. I tried a lot of different things. I tried Ayurveda and been on and off for a while.
0:54 started at all. Okay, how did you hear about veganism on the internet?
[video] 1:02 I think YouTube started having some people about natural foods and stuff. I always believed that raw food is the most natural diet there is, you know. Only back then I believed it was raw plant foods. Nobody talked about eating raw meat. So that's how it started for me. Then I started juicing and a lot of smoothies, you know. But in the first few years, I felt great. My health hasn't been better than before. And then I got into a motorcycle accident. And then I got really heavy antibiotics. And I got a vaccine for tetanus, you know that?
1:54 Tetanus, yeah.
[video] 1:55 And after that my health was fucked. And I didn't get it back. Not with vegan food, not with plant food. So I tried everything, yogurt and fish and all kind of stuff after that. And then I went on the wagon and I tried all kinds of diets. Juicing and I don't know what else.
2:14 That's interesting, because the other guy, Raul from New York, he also had a tetanus shot, but he said he didn't feel anything.
[video] 2:21 Yeah, I think it's the antibiotics. The antibiotics, they tested on me and I got an allergic reaction immediately.
2:30 Of course.
[video] 2:31 And after that, I still got a really heavy one, those, that I had to finish, even if I didn't want to.
2:38 Yeah.
[video] 2:39 So... And I think that's the blame for the most health, because in the beginning my health was really good. But I have to say, in the beginning that I did the veganism, I did mostly fat. I ate a lot of fat, not sugar.
[video] 2:54 And later I didn't know what I do, and I tried everything, you know. But later I got skin problems, and I got Candida diagnosed, and all that kind of stuff. So, it's all bullshit.
3:08 How long were you vegan at first, from 2008 to?
[video] 3:14 I think three years.
3:15 Okay. And then vegetarian? Or pescatarian?
[video] 3:20 Um... Yeah, then I started introducing, how do you call it, Bioharde. It's a kind of, well, they say that the bacteria turn left or something, like the quark. Oh. You know quark?
3:37 Yeah, cottage cheese.
[video] 3:39 No, same like yogurt.
3:43 Yeah.
[video] 3:43 But thicker. I don't know what it's called in English.
3:46 That's what it is.
[video] 3:47 Yeah?
3:48 Yeah.
[video] 3:52 But I couldn't handle that stuff. And fish. I ate a lot of fish.
3:58 Okay. Biscuitarian, basically.
[video] 4:03 Yeah. But after a year or something, I started eating a lot of oils and all that kind of stuff. And I started feeling bad. And then you blame the animal foods.
4:13 Yeah.
4:17 And then you went back to veganism?
[video] 4:20 Then I tried veganism, yeah. I tried it.
4:22 In 2011 or 2012?
[video] 4:24 No, I think after 2013.
4:30 Okay.
[video] 4:33 Yeah, 2013. That was after I got the motorcycle accident. It was 2013.
4:41 Okay.
[video] 4:41 Let me think then.
4:51 To heal?
[video] 4:53 Yeah, I wanted to heal. And then I tried, then I started trying to do a lot of culture foods, you know, fermenting foods, sprouting and all kinds of stuff to eat live foods. Because I still believe that that's the basics for health, you know, live foods, bacteria and stuff. But it didn't work also. And then I tried Ayurveda, you know Ayurveda?
5:17 Yeah.
[video] 5:19 fucked me up even more. I got arthritis signs in my hands and stuff, couldn't move and pain in my joints and stuff. So I think I was at a kind of, you know, you're on a sort of border. Everything, you eat bad stuff, you make it worse. And then I eat some healthy stuff and then I'm still on the edge of Not getting symptoms, you know. So I stopped that also. And then I started to juice. That's the biggest mistake I made.
5:52 Okay.
[video] 5:53 Juicing.
5:55 2013, you started again, and then how long?
[video] 6:01 I think, well, on and off. I started searching for two years, I think.
6:06 Okay.
[video] 6:07 And beginning of 2016, I started to go full.
[video] 6:12 vegan again raw food and stopped eating breads cereals grains all that kind of stuff you know yeah rice i didn't eat rice anymore no soy products and no fake meats and all that kind of stuff but it didn't work right i got a I got a lot of symptoms. I got swollen ankles and stuff. And it's all basically your kidneys or your liver that's stopped working. I think I can't handle the sugar. So it's hard, man.
6:50 So how long were you vegan altogether? Maybe five, six years?
[video] 6:56 I think so. Something like that.
6:58 Yeah.
[video] 6:59 With some breaks.
7:00 Right.
7:04 What about your time in Costa Rica?
[video] 7:08 That was a vegan farm. No, not a vegan farm, it was a natural farm.
7:15 Tell me about that.
[video] 7:18 Well, that's when my health really went down. My skin got a lot of skin problems. I couldn't handle the sugar, so I got swollen feet. They say it was from burning from the sun. It's not from burning from the sun. It's just my kidneys didn't work and I got, how do you call it, anemia.
7:39 Right.
[video] 7:39 A lot of fluids in your legs, you know. Right, right. But I didn't notice it at the moment. I found out when I was back that it was that problem because they all said it was just from the burning of my feet. So, and they all, yeah, I don't believe it's good, man. I fucked my health up.
[video] 8:00 And I'm still working on symptoms. I weighed like 60 kilos when I was back from there.
8:06 Shit.
[video] 8:07 Shit. That's less.
8:08 How tall are you? 180? Huh? How tall are you?
[video] 8:11 About 180? 178. Right.
8:14 Right.
[video] 8:15 Centimeters. What's that? 61 or something, I think?
8:18 A bit less. Approximately.
[video] 8:22 I was really skinny, man. My arms were everywhere.
[video] 8:30 what about what about the other people in costa rica and the guy who works there what about them yeah he looks normal but i think he eats animal products but silently if people don't look he's getting chicken and stuff i think i don't know and his wife also his wife They promote a raw veganism diet and plant-based, but his wife had some kind of disease also, and she also eats eggs and animal products, so it was a little bit based, you know, biased, I don't know. That's what you found out.
9:13 Any other people you met there, or did you have any vegan friends, any contacts, stuff like that?
[video] 9:20 From there?
9:21 There or in general?
[video] 9:23 No, I don't have any vegan friends.
9:25 Never had?
[video] 9:26 No, and I've never been vegan for the animals. I don't care about animals. Well, I care about animals, but my first priority has always been my health. Yeah, yeah. It's the most important thing to me.
9:39 Yeah.
[video] 9:40 Did you... Yeah, go on. Well, I don't see many people that look healthy nowadays. And that's what I wondered all my life. All my life I was wondering, there's something wrong with diet, you know. But nobody really knows. Everybody only tries stuff, but nobody really knows, you know.
10:01 Did you take any supplements?
[video] 10:04 I tried supplements when I was vegan, yeah, sure. I tried spirulina and all the tablets. B12 at some point I tried for a while.
10:14 Yeah.
[video] 10:15 But not for long.
10:16 Okay.
[video] 10:18 And yeah, I tried a lot, but I'm not really a fan of all the supplements.
10:23 Yeah.
[video] 10:26 But yeah, I used protein, hemp protein I used a lot. Oh, okay. For training, but that doesn't work. I tried everything with training, but this goes best, man. Raw meat.
10:41 Yeah, so tell us about what you eat right now.
[video] 10:46 Only raw meat and Butter, fish, only animal products, basically. Sometimes I juice a little bit.
10:54 Yes.
[video] 10:55 That's all I eat, basically. And I'm four kilos heavier than I've ever been.
11:02 Okay.
[video] 11:03 Even with training six days a week and protein shakes and everything.
11:07 Right.
[video] 11:08 And I don't use any supplements now.
11:11 Of course.
[video] 11:12 And I train only three times a week for 40 minutes, I don't think.
[video] 11:18 It's crazy. There's a big difference. But I'm still searching. There's a lot of things that have to work for the health. I got a thyroid problem and I found out that if you have thyroid problems, it's not really advisable to eat a lot of salads and a lot of fruits and stuff because it can be hard on the system.
[video] 11:43 So all the people telling me that you do the vegan diet, you do it wrong and stuff. If you are damaging your body, then it doesn't work at all. If it works for people, you must be lucky. Yeah. I think. I still wonder why it worked for the first two years, but maybe because I stopped all the other processed foods, you know.
12:10 Right.
12:13 It's hard to know. Did you have any other health problems? Anything mental, for example?
[video] 12:22 Well, now, when I look back at the time, I think I had mental problems when I was vegan.
12:28 Okay.
[video] 12:29 But that's how I feel now, because I'm much more clear in my head.
12:34 Right. Only then you can see. Only then you can see afterwards.
[video] 12:39 Yeah.
12:40 Yeah.
[video] 12:41 And I was really, yeah, my beliefs were not grounded in reality, you know? Okay, right. That's basically the biggest thing. Yeah. And the rest, yeah. I don't know. More health problems, yeah, a lot of skin problems, fungus, that kind of stuff.
13:04 Yeah.
[video] 13:05 It's all gone now.
[video] 13:09 Yeah, what else did I add? Most things I had were autoimmune diseases, but that's all related to my thyroid, I think. Especially on a plant-based diet, my body fights too much, you know? I got so many autoimmune signs. I can't sleep and all that kind of stuff. I have a lot of trouble with the vegan diet. It's all gone now. sleeping like a baby so yeah the biggest thing I don't know even the hospital in Paris is bullshit man it's all about money the first one money before they bring you to the hospital that's what almost killed me yeah it's crazy what exactly happened? I had a bleeding in my stomach
[video] 14:06 And I lost a lot of blood because we were young, drunk, partying. So we didn't know, and I just thought it was cola or something. But it was all black, you know. I was throwing up black. It's supposed to be blood all the way. But after a few hours, I'd lost so much blood that I was pale white like a ghost. Some guys started to scare, so they called the doctor. And I think the doctor took three hours to come.
14:37 Yeah.
[video] 14:39 And then first he wanted 80 euros. And he started checking me. And then he said, well, it's going to be okay. You can go to Holland in a few days. No problem. And then I did a blood pressure test.
14:55 Yeah.
[video] 14:56 He said it's a little bit low. You could go to the hospital, but you don't have to.
[video] 15:04 Well, the guys were so panicked because I saw really bad and I was rolling around and going crazy. So they called the hospital and it took another two hours or something before the ambulance was there. And I was dying in the back of the ambulance and then they first wanted 150 euros to bring me to the hospital. So they started searching for the cash machine in the city.
15:29 Wow.
[video] 15:30 For like 30 minutes or something.
15:32 Oh, man.
[video] 15:34 my friends were following so by the time I was in the hospital it was almost too late doctor said one minute later and you were done I think my blood pressure was 60 on 35 yeah so you have to be in shock already you know yeah so that's since then I'm really against the medical how do you call it the medical
[video] 16:07 all sucks man yeah i heard similar stories about the united states they just leave people on the street they can't pay whatever fuck off yeah yeah and i think i felt for it because i started trying foods you know but probably my stomach acid was too low so fruits were better for me because if i ate like chicken or something it took me so much energy
[video] 16:45 A lot of sauce with it and all that kind of stuff. It's hard to say. Wish I could do it over.
[video] 16:57 I hope I can return some of the damage I did with the vegan diet.
[video] 17:04 It's my biggest concern.
[video] 17:09 You think?
[video] 17:11 I think it will.
17:14 It will just take some time.
[video] 17:17 Sure.
[video] 17:20 More questions?
17:21 No, man, that's it. Do you want to say anything?
[video] 17:27 Don't do juice fast.
17:29 Yeah, man. Our dream is from that.
[video] 17:33 Juice fast ruined my teeth. I got like six holes or something and I lost the teeth.
[video] 17:41 last one so that was what made me change from the vegan diet because your teeth doesn't supposed to go when you're not even old how long did you do the fast I don't know two months or something yeah I did it but I was working I didn't have free time so I didn't have time to break the fast, so I kept postponing it, you know?
18:14 Oh, wow, okay.
[video] 18:17 Yeah, it sucks. Yeah. I really regret it.
[video] 18:24 Oh, well. It's a learning phase, you know?
[video] 18:31 And I got a lot of troubles with it, you know? A lot of skin problems from the juicing, dry skin.
18:37 Uh-huh, yeah.
18:41 No fat.
[video] 18:43 No fat.
[video] 18:46 No, I can't handle much fruit. I think I'm even allergic now.
18:53 Could be. Yeah. I also went allergic to most fruits and vegetables after veganism.
[video] 19:01 Really?
19:02 Yeah, yeah.
[video] 19:03 I can't handle bananas.
[video] 19:06 I got problems with melon. Same.
19:09 Same.
[video] 19:11 Tomatoes.
19:12 Yeah, same. I can't eat anything red. Strawberries, you name it.
[video] 19:17 Really?
19:17 Yeah, nothing.
[video] 19:18 I ate tomatoes the other day because I read in the book of Agilis that it's good for hydration, but I can't take it, man.
19:29 If I eat a tomato, I gotta pretty much throw up because I get this acid and it just wants to
[video] 19:36 I had really dry hands and my lips. I think that's the tomatoes. I had it on the vegan diet also. If I ate tomatoes in salads and stuff, it's crazy. And that's also a big difference. When I ate salads, I was never satisfied. And I ate salads like really big, you know.
19:57 Same here. And I think that's why it happened. And a lot of avocados. And I can't eat them at all anymore.
[video] 20:04 And after a few years, I started getting meat. The first day I got meat at the butcher. And I got in the car and I just got a sensation of happiness. You know that? Just like from the inside. Just joy and happiness. That was a sign for me. My body was really happy. You can't fake that emotion in your body, you know? So that says enough for me that we're supposed to eat meat. You can't lie to your body.
[video] 20:38 That was really funny.
[video] 20:42 That's basically the most, yeah.
20:46 Any YouTubers that you liked, maybe? Back then? Yeah.
[video] 20:54 No, not really.
[video] 20:59 I think back then there were Durian Rider and stuff.
21:03 Yeah, back then there were hardly any.
[video] 21:05 Yeah, that was the biggest one and I hated that guy. So annoying. Nobody else was there. I don't think there were many.
21:16 Yeah.
[video] 21:18 When I started in 2008 or something.
[video] 21:27 too far away you know oh Dan the man I looked sometimes you know him? Dan McDonald he was into the juicing yeah I think it's a normal step also
21:57 What is the normal stuff?
[video] 21:58 Well, at first when you don't know, you know, we're all so brainwashed, you start to think that juicing and the natural foods are natural, you know. It's most natural there is. In the beginning it makes sense.
[video] 22:15 Now it doesn't make sense anymore.
22:17 Somehow it makes sense, I get it.
[video] 22:19 Yeah, it's hard to say, but I think it's a phase with... Knowing stuff and learning stuff to become aware of the, yeah, we call it fake information. And maybe it's also a process of human thinking, you know. You first have to go through that phase to think about it. I don't know. I don't think most people even think about it. in the short run. The other day I had a talk with someone and it was at the physiotherapy, you know that, for my back. And then we started talking about foods and I started talking about brushing your teeth and I said, no one in nature brushes their teeth. If your teeth are gone when you're 50 and you can get to 100 and you're doing something wrong. I've never thought about it. That's what most people don't think about it.
[video] 23:20 It's funny, you know?
23:26 Yeah.
[video] 23:31 And now I don't even brush my teeth. Or hardly.
23:35 Yeah.
[video] 23:37 So that says enough, you know?
23:39 Yeah, man. I also don't.
[video] 23:43 No. But I fuck my teeth. Most of my teeth are filled now.
23:49 Yeah. But...
[video] 23:51 That's life.
[video] 23:55 Sometimes I wish you could have been born and have the knowledge you have now, you know?
23:59 Start over. Yeah, yeah. Many people think that.
[video] 24:05 I hope I will remember much more if I get into the next life, maybe. Yeah. If you have a next life or not. What I find crazy also is if you go to a... How do you call it? Organic store. Yeah. Yeah. And you're getting... organic products yeah right most most is filled with glucose syrup and corn syrup and all that kind of stuff yeah yeah if i go to the normal supermarket and i get some organic stuff it isn't in there why is that yeah i was looking the other day to that so i think the organic store is all bullshit also yeah for the most part 99
[video] 24:53 It's crazy, but nobody looks at it. That's my thought. If you go to an organic store, it has to be better than in a normal store, but in a normal store, the organic products don't have glucose syrup and corn syrup and all that kind of shit. Why is that?
[video] 25:17 Yeah.
[video] 25:20 No.
[video] 25:25 Fuck vegans. I don't know, man.
[video] 25:33 One more.
25:36 It's all good. Yeah. Bedankt.
[video] 25:40 Bedankt. I can eat some high meat.
25:45 Oh. Okay. Yeah, chicken. Nice apartment, by the way.
[video] 25:53 Yeah, it's really cheap, man.
25:59 What is it?
[video] 26:00 Chicken.
26:01 Oh, chicken? I'm making some chicken.
[video] 26:03 31 of July, look.
26:05 Yeah, I'm doing it right now. Uh-huh, okay. So it's six months. Nice.
[video] 26:13 You wanna see?
26:13 Yeah, yeah. Okay.
[video] 26:20 It smells...
[video] 26:24 It smells not as bad as the other ones.
26:28 Okay, it's not like beef. No. Okay.
[video] 26:33 It's really jelly, jelly like.
26:35 Yeah, yeah, I noticed.
[video] 26:40 It's not a strong taste also. Yeah, it's really jelly, jelly like.
[video] 26:57 Yeah, the other ones are worse from taste. You tried it, chicken? No.
27:01 No, I'm making it right now. It's gonna take a while, but I'm looking forward to it.
[video] 27:08 But it still goes against your own feelings, you know. The other day I was still a little bit, how do you call it, frightened to eat it.
[video] 27:20 It's crazy because if chicken is so
[video] 27:29 And the aftertaste isn't bad also. It's a little bit fishy.
27:37 Okay.
27:41 Do some fish. Fish? I never tried fish. I haven't tried also.
[video] 27:48 I don't know how long it takes fish. Same amount? I suppose. I think fish is more jelly-like, isn't it?
27:56 Maybe.
[video] 27:58 I think so.
[video] 28:01 This also, I think you don't even have to chew the chicken. You can just melt it on your tongue.
28:07 Okay.
[video] 28:07 So soft it is.
[video] 28:12 Yep.
[video] 28:14 Chicken, fish, what kind of fish? Tuna?
28:19 I would like to do tuna.
[video] 28:21 But I think I have still like six or seven other bottles. Uh-huh.
28:31 Oh, wow. Nice. Where did you get reindeer?
[video] 28:37 With the last Christmas, you can order it wild.
28:41 Oh.
[video] 28:42 I got reindeer. I got normal way. How do you say that?
28:50 Deer?
[video] 28:52 Deer.
28:53 Yeah.
[video] 28:54 What is the other one?
[video] 28:58 Rope. The what? Rope. Roe? Yeah, it's the same as the Bambi.
29:06 Uh-huh.
[video] 29:07 I don't know. Bambi, that's not a deer, is it? It's not a breed. Same family. Okay. I think. What else did I get? Boar.
[video] 29:24 Wild rabbit.
29:26 Rabbit, interesting.
[video] 29:30 What else? But I didn't like the liver, man. Deer liver is really strong taste. Oh. Really strong. And the normal meat also. Oh, and I tried deer ground beef, ground meat.
29:48 Yeah.
[video] 29:48 It was OK also.
[video] 29:53 What else? I don't know.
[video] 29:58 Fish. I'm going to try fish next time. What kind of fish?
30:02 Salmon or tuna? Swordfish, maybe?
[video] 30:05 Not too fat, eh? Not fat fish. Doesn't ferment right, does it?
30:10 Okay, tuna isn't so fatty. Swordfish is. Salmon also. But tuna is... Fine.
[video] 30:19 Tuna is expensive.
30:20 Yeah.
[video] 30:23 I'm gonna try it.
30:25 Yeah, me too. Just need a jar.
[video] 30:28 You don't have a jar?
30:31 Right now I don't.
[video] 30:34 Why? You don't? How much do you have?
30:38 I have a little bit of the beef heart, the liver.
30:45 That's my favorite. And now I'm making the chicken also.
[video] 30:48 So I've got three. You tried kidney also?
30:51 No, that I would also like to try.
[video] 30:59 But I don't know, it's really juicy, you know? I wonder if it remains right.
31:12 Can I try the stuff if I come to the restaurant? Can I try the stuff if I come visit you?
[video] 31:18 Sure.
31:19 Cool.
[video] 31:30 Yeah, there's a lot of fluid in there.
31:33 Yeah, I see.
[video] 31:35 Does it ferment then? It's always under the fluid, you know.
31:40 It should. What? It should.
[video] 31:43 Yeah, well, it looks like it.
[video] 32:01 Pretty old.
[video] 32:05 Augustus.
32:08 Yeah.
[video] 32:09 I think this is hard. Leaf hard. okay this is the deer liver bit up a little bit yeah okay it's really light colored you know yeah
33:00 Was it always like that? No. Yeah, it was darker. Yeah, right.
[video] 33:06 This is from 21 December. It's one month. Didn't try it yet. This is all empty. I don't know what this is. I think this is kidneys.
[video] 33:23 Sheep kidneys.
33:24 Oh, wow.
[video] 33:28 Doesn't look... looks crazy, man.
[video] 33:34 Didn't try it.
[video] 33:58 Sometimes I eat a piece and it's not really tasteful, but you still want to take another piece.
[video] 34:07 I don't eat it that much.
[video] 34:12 Yep.
