[video] 0:00 yo guys i'm going to review the latest video by the try guys i gained 20 pounds of muscle in a year for chronic pain so um i don't know exactly where this video is going but i'll tell you where i'm starting i woke up feeling like absolute garbage today i was 12 18 and it was taking me all morning

[video] 0:37 I live with something called ankylosing spondylitis. I've made content about it in the past, but basically my body is very stiff. It's like an arthritic condition. If I didn't treat it, all my bones would fuse together. I am on medicine that is, in theory, preventing the progression of the disease. I do yoga all the time. I stretch. I have a million little doodads and devices that are supposed to help me cope with pain. But still, no matter what I do, I'm just always in pain. I feel like I'm not making progress. In fact, I feel like I'm slowly slipping backwards. It is time... to play offense. For this video, I'm going to change my life. I am going to completely change my diet. I am going to completely change my exercise routine. And over the next couple months, years, I don't know how long this is going to take, I'm going to try and add mass and muscle to this frail, adorable body you see before you. I'm going to try and gain 20 pounds of muscle.

[video] 1:28 Hey, Justin. How's it going? Hey, Zach. How's it going?

1:31 He's trying to relieve his pain by gaining 20 pounds of muscle. Pain, which is most likely, from what he said, and I understand this topic quite well, caused by deposits of uric acid and just decaying cells around the joints. Things that would actually help would be reducing or ideally eliminating fructose from the diet, because the end product of fructose metabolism is uric acid, eliminating all kinds of cured meats such as sausages and all nightshades. The mask. He's also wearing a mask. Why?

[video] 2:05 I really wonder, is that a rule that they have to follow?

2:08 Maybe. I guess.

[video] 2:19 I'm kind of assessing and mobilizing each segment of your spine on top of each other and making sure they glide on top of each other as best as they can. I've said this in the past and I...

2:31 If you simply look at how his body looks like, you can tell that his diet must be horrible. Still, we'll see if he actually changes his diet. And if he will, it will probably not be right.

[video] 2:43 I won't be able to do anything else. I don't know how I'm going to... have a family with this I don't know like I can't carry a fucking kid I can't do that so I feel like here we go again the work that I need to do now is to ensure myself a happy future

[video] 3:16 I will work out three times a week and I am gaining nothing. It's just kind of starting to piss me off. So I found this guy, John. He is a vegan bodybuilder who has the same disease as me.

3:27 A vegan bodybuilder and he has the same disease.

[video] 3:31 And so I reached out to him. Holy God, that water bottle. One gallon a day. It's got inspirational quotes.

3:40 Inspirational quotes. Got it. Remember your goal. That's it. Keep drinking.

[video] 3:47 So you stay on track. AS is not easy. It beats you down. My attitude was making it worse. You changed your diet. You changed your fitness routine. What did you do? I built a team. I got a physiotherapist, massage therapist. I got a trainer to learn the basics of working out. I wasn't vegan yet. I was still eating meat and dairy, but it was holding me back. Anecdotal research about the connection between diet change and... Inflammatory pain? Dairy and meat are super inflammatory.

4:14 What anecdotal evidence. Food is absolutely 100% related to the inflammation in your body.

[video] 4:22 The fact of the matter is you need protein, carbs. It doesn't have to come from meat. When I switched to plant-based in 2018,

[video] 4:29 until now my total like weight gain was upwards of 70 80 pounds you gained 70 pounds eating vegan i don't know that we'll have the same experience but he looks fat literally his cheeks even he looks bloated and fat with him i see this glimmer of hope what are we gonna be doing together i want to be aggressive with your symptoms i'm making you a four-day workout plan and like we can go up or down from there

[video] 4:59 And then as far as nutrition goes, I'm making sure you're getting the right nutrients and the proper amount of food. I need to put all of this in my body.

5:11 The right nutrients. Plants don't have over 15 micronutrients, which means that he's going to be malnourished if he actually follows a vegan diet. Rice has absolutely nothing, simply carbohydrates. The green sticks are indigestible. I don't even know what the rest is. Are those soybeans?

[video] 5:32 Oh my God. Where's it all gonna go? Really wish I'd done my hair for this video. Forgive me for asking this. Am I gonna be pooping all the time? There's so much, I'm gonna be eating so much food. Where's it gonna go? Your muscles. Before this, I was eating.

5:47 Yeah, to your muscles, of course.

[video] 5:49 Oh my god.

5:59 I don't know if he's going to talk about it, but he's going to be incredibly bloated and he will have a lot of gas. It will be a pain for people who will be around him because of the smell.

6:10 Pass that.

[video] 6:11 I can't eat any more food. As of last week, I am now vegan. For my main protein, I've got three options. Tempeh, which is what he wants to move me to long term. Tofu, which is what you might think of. The problem with tofu is it takes so much.

6:26 Tempeh is also really bad. Again, uric acid production. And then, Satan.

[video] 6:32 Guys, fucking hail Satan. If you were trying to go vegan, this shit is so delicious. John gave me this.

6:39 Yeah, because it reminds people of meat, which means that naturally you want to eat meat, especially if you work out, you will have very strong meat cravings. That's why you say that Satan, and the name, come on, is actually good for you or that you will really want it. How can you not even think about this? How can you actually be so stupid Do not realize why you have these cravings for this food.

[video] 7:05 He loads in my exercises, he loads in my meals. I've got four meals a day. My breakfast smoothie, my lunch, my dinner, and then a post-workout smoothie that goes somewhere in the middle. I mean, he's having me like hit 2000 calories a day, which isn't crazy. That's like the standard diet, but I'm doing it all with good food. That's how we're going to pack muscle on your frame. And that's how we're going to make it.

7:21 Just completely brainwashed. How is that good food?

[video] 7:24 Your posture good. And that's how we're going to slow the symptoms of this disease of ASN. I can speak from experience. I haven't had arthritic pain in months. That's crazy to me. I truly don't remember a time in my life.

7:39 He says that he hasn't had pain, but then he says that he will slow it down, which really just means that he doesn't have as much pain, supposedly.

[video] 7:49 Where a part of my body didn't hurt. Damn. It's weird. I know I feel this stuff, but I don't say it out loud that much, even to my family or to Maggie. Because I guess it's just...

8:05 Yes, it's fucked up what he's going through, but you have to be somewhat dumb to actually get to this point in your life. Because he obviously understands that he wants to eat meat, for example, which is why he talked about the Satan. And of course, in reality, he actually wants to eat raw meat. And if he would be eating his natural food, drinking some blood, eating liver and other raw meat, the pain would be gone within weeks. Guaranteed. Just completely gone.

[video] 8:35 What are you doing? I am making tofu and I'm wearing a heat pad because I don't have a heat pad for our update. You look like a superhero. Thank you. Tofu man. Ooh, my superhero name could be Soy Boy. Finally, the internet shows are right. Oh god. Shoot tofu at people.

8:56 Yeah, he really does do the name justice, though. It just is what it is. He's going to be consuming even more phytoestrogens, which will not change his body whatsoever. If anything, it will make it even worse. You have toxins accumulated in your whole body, yet you consume even more garbage to make it even more toxic. It's just amazing.

[video] 9:21 What sucks too is that I didn't get anything done today. I was just in pain. I'm one month in, and I'm not seeing progress. I've lost three counts. Well, it's because you're working out, you know?

[video] 9:34 My whole body is just tense. My sacrum is so tight. It sucks because on a morning like this, I don't want to do anything. The last thing I want to do is exercise. So today I'm going to show you my exercise routine. I have four days of exercise that I'm supposed to do to try and put on the muscle. I start with three sets of 30 seconds of planks. And I just try and make everything purposeful.

9:58 I don't think that he should be gaining muscle anyway, or at least focusing on it for his condition. But what he's doing right there is really not good whatsoever for gaining muscle.

[video] 10:20 What's cool about this is that you don't actually see the needle. It's in there.

[video] 10:26 I really wonder what medicine he's using. It's crazy. I would be curious to look into it. Five months now and I just did my weigh-in and I have gained almost 10 pounds and it's crazy.

10:36 I can actually see.

[video] 10:48 a difference, I'm bigger. Some of it is muscle, some of it, unfortunately, is fat. I gotta work a little harder, I think, on the workouts, but the diet is working, the workouts are working. Luckily, the New Year's was coming up, and New Year, new me.

[video] 11:22 Two.

[video] 11:31 Working out is painful, but it's a different kind of pain. It's like a good pain. It's a pain that I'm choosing.

11:37 Unfortunately, we don't see what he actually ate throughout the whole year. I don't know if he ate an actual vegan diet or mostly plant-based. But his body looks exactly the way you would expect somebody who's been doing a vegan diet for a year and working out to look like. And that's what I always say. You basically can gain muscle on a vegan diet except if you're on drugs, which all of the vegan bodybuilders are. This is an actual real result that you could expect. Zero muscle gain.

[video] 12:06 Now this is the moment that you have been waiting for. After one year of working out, how much weight have I gained? Check me out.

[video] 12:18 No, I don't have glistening abs. But after one year, I am officially... 20 pounds heavier and it is at least partially muscle. If you look at my chart, it took a while to see any progress, but I had to stick with it. This was never about the dramatic physical change. This was about how I feel. It's really hard for me to even think about where I was a year.

12:37 The muffin top. That's all that he gained. Imagine how his body would look like if he ate raw meat for one year. The change would be drastic.

[video] 12:49 A year ago this time, I was not sleeping. I was waking up at three in the morning, four in the morning, five in the morning, every single day, multiple times. When I woke up, my body was stiff. I was delirious and tired. I had a severe baseline of pain throughout the day, and I would get just smacked with these crazy flare-ups. A year later, my neck still fucking hurts when I wake up, but I slept. I feel pretty good when I wake up. And I have not had a severe flare up in a while, in a long time. This is not gonna be one of those videos that has like a crazy before and after and wow, he's everything's different now. Cause that's not how it works. I still have pain.

13:27 It is how it works. You can actually do it if you follow nature. If you eat an absolutely unnatural man-made diet based on very, very inflammatory man-made plants, which don't exist in nature, then yes, that's how you will look like.

[video] 13:43 I can feel it right now. It's there. It's always there. And the pain won't go away. There are things I can't do. But when I think about where I'm at now versus where I was at a year ago, this has changed my life entirely. Are your arms tired? Shout out to Maggie on the camera. Different. Naked Zach hit different these days. Exciting part? I worked hard for that. We got more work to do.

14:14 Thank God. Yeah, that was it. A vegan transformation. An actual real one, not all the fake stuff that you see. I'm glad that he showed how his body really looks like and didn't try to cover it up. I'm also, of course, glad that he talked about the pain and didn't say that it was completely gone. He, of course, had to say something because it's been a year and he has to say that something has changed, blah, blah, blah. Really, of course, everybody who has an open mind, so to speak, can see that Pretty much everything got worse and he's going down the completely wrong road. It's heading nowhere at best and most likely to an actually really bad place because the pain is going to get worse and worse over the years, obviously. He's going to be skinny fat, which is what he is right now. He has to start eating steak tartare carpaccio if he wants to, if that's more appealing than eating straight up raw meat.

15:09 Raw ribeye steaks, if those are more appealing than other parts of the animal, and some raw liver now and then. Really, even if it would be cooked animal foods, it would still be way better than anything that he was doing now, which again, we didn't exactly see, but he said that he's going to be eating a vegan diet, so that's what we can assume he actually did. Like I said before, his body would look completely different and not in this way different because it looks worse. It would actually look a lot better. He would actually be able to see the muscle. He would not have gained all of the fat which is typical when you eat a lot of carbs because you're producing a lot of insulin. That's a typical insulin belly that he was showing there at the end because the pancreas is just releasing insulin non-stop and then of course you get a skinny fat body. Yeah, that's the result. Thanks for watching.
