[video] 0:00 What's up guys as requested I'm going to review a video called how gym bros change the world by the channel Jimmy the Giant the gym bros Gym bros have gone from being the butt of every single internet joke to transforming into an entire movement spanning self-help politics philosophy science and completely changing the world motivation is a feeling that comes and goes
0:28 It did kind of change the world, this earth, in the sense that it made it a lot worse and people live a lot shorter lives because of these gym bros.
[video] 0:41 Discipline is infinitely more important. Get a sweat going and you're gonna feel pumped.
0:49 And what are they doing there? Lifting man-made metal? A man-made bar? All that I see are feminine, estrogenic slaves. That's it?
0:59 It's such a loser thing to do. To have days wasted away feeling sorry for myself.
[video] 1:06 However, it hasn't been without its controversies. I text her because I reached a point where I thought I could get a little stronger. Physical fitness has always been central to the far right. That getting shredded will give you access to some elusive male dominance. So let's start with a simple question. What is a gym bro? Found in every single gym across the world will be an unbelievably muscly man in a loose vest, wearing a snapback, holding onto a protein shake, who will communicate with other gym bros in what I like to call gym speak. Words such as swole, game, shredded, bruh. While staring longingly at their incredible physiques in the mirror, this first wave of the gym bro was slightly vain, slightly obnoxious, and slightly dumb. Eight o'clock in the morning, I'll have fish and a rice cake. At 10 o'clock, I'll have fish. At 12 o'clock, I'll have fish and a rice cake. I am hearing you, but you're not listening to me. The whole thing about their brains not working properly isn't really untrue simply because of how toxic their diets and the injections are. Of course, getting to that point also requires a certain amount of intelligence.
[video] 2:18 As we entered the digital age, so too did bodybuilders. When they weren't in the gym, you could find them online discussing and debating what piece of salmon they should eat at what hour and exactly how many chews you needed to maximize your jaw gains. There would be one post on the 16th of February 2002, where a user by the name of Chris C responded to a fella by the name of Bubba T, where he asked, do you have any friends in real life? Do you even lift? Do You Even Lift became a massive online meme. It was everywhere throughout the 2000s into the 2010s. And it would be accompanied by other gym bro-esque memes. Words like swole, clowning on people for skipping leg day. The gym bro was basically a reskinned version of the meathead, updated for the internet age. However, on top of all of these jokes, stereotypes, and memes, there was a darker side to the gym bro culture.
[video] 3:04 I was engaged a big reason why that came to an end was because of my steroid use There was this very dark side when it come to the side effects of steroid abuse things like liver damage heart problems hormonal imbalances There'd be these major news stories of like roid rage we'd see it with chris benoit and his double murder suicide and the internet
3:20 It's not roid rage directly, because steroid hormones as such don't cause any of these problems, but when you inject them in unnatural amounts, maybe synthetic versions, of course it causes havoc in the body. It obviously creates an unnatural biochemical state, and because of all the adrenaline cortisol going through the roof, you do get pretty serious problems, and these people do freak out.
[video] 3:46 ...only made things get more and more extreme. Enter Zeez. And every one of us has a little bit of Zeez in us. You just don't know yet. And it's because there was something interesting about Zeez. He would start out his journey as a typical 2000s internet virgin. Addicted to World of Warcraft, petrified... Yeah, because he was naturally a loser.
4:06 He had a very unattractive face, which is why he worked out so much. That's why he wore the glasses also, to hide his face, his ugly eyes.
[video] 4:14 ...speaking to women. I'm Josh. Hi.
[video] 4:21 And having absolutely no self-confidence. However, in just a few years, he turned himself into this chiseled Adonis, with women flocking all over him and this cartoonish self-confidence. This right here was an evolution to the original Meathead. The OG Meathead was always seen as the natural jock alpha type, but Z's was different. He would deliberately act like this very overconfident gym bro type, using all the vocabulary, come at me bro, you mad, you mire in. He would relentlessly troll people who weren't as genetically gifted as he was, ascribing his own religion.
4:51 He wasn't genetically gifted in any way though, in any way whatsoever, nothing about his body really. Although, okay, I think that he wasn't too short from what it seems like from photos, I don't know. Actually, I gotta look up how tall he is. Yeah, 187. I take that back, he was gifted. in that sense. It's not super tall, but it's above average, obviously.
[video] 5:11 Shredology. But behind all of the memes and the trolling, Zees was doing something important. It inspired these nerdy kids who didn't really have a lot of confidence to get in the gym, get bigger, and gain some self-discipline and self-confidence. A well-known Sydney body...
5:29 He didn't seem to have any self-confidence though, it really seems like very deep insecurity.
[video] 5:35 Of course he went to saunas also, just like all the slaves.
[video] 5:44 Man, I can't stop looking at those fake teeth. Yeah, but that's also because the diets are getting worse and worse and men naturally don't produce enough testosterone.
[video] 6:07 People inside the fitness community to take steroids has got worse and worse as well. My income is based off of how I look because the better I look, the better reach that I have because the more the platforms push you, because literally it's truth. You see it with Alex Eubank, who is known for being a natural, saying that he is sometimes tempted and feels pressured to do it himself, despite literally looking like this.
6:28 Yeah, but this guy has a handsome face. He doesn't even need to work out. Women would still want to be with him.
[video] 6:34 And it's also too bad that people do that to themselves, seeing as they are going to age horribly and look a lot worse by the time they are 30, even though they could
6:52 easily manage to keep their looks until their 40s at least if they wouldn't work out. And these people are going to regret it. Needed to change.
[video] 7:01 What are the health risks that guys should consider if they're thinking about going on TRTs? Well, it depends the context in which they enter. And so, into the 2010s, a new wave of gym bro was emerging. After having developed their warrior bodies, the gym bros realized once they reached the peak of the mountain, it was just the first hill. There were more gains to be had, mental gains. You get one. It doesn't make you dumber if you work out. Stop. I know that jocks were assholes and people bullied you. I get it. Yeah. But goddamn it, take care of your fucking meat.
7:29 It does make you dumber necessarily, but it does create literal brain toxicity, which does actually damage the brain. And it does make you dumber, obviously.
[video] 7:37 In steps, go Rogan. He was able to break the mold of the stereotype.
7:43 Yeah, Rogan is very obviously somebody who's trying to compensate.
[video] 7:46 Typical gym bro. With his podcast that goes through many of his different interests from MMA to fitness to science to anything, he showed that gym bros didn't just have to be one-trap minded on their bodies. His podcast would explore these deep topics. It would explore self-improvement, how to live better, how to be healthier, how to develop a stronger mindset, be successful,
8:03 You can't really improve yourself. Self-improvement is an absolute joke. You are given the genetics that you have and there's hardly anything that you can change about them. Guys who go to the gym, they compensate their whole lives. They cope and they die in their 50s or 60s because of how unhealthy it is. And if they were happy, healthy and... content with their life, then they would have never started working out. If they had good genetics, they were tall and handsome and so on, they would see no reason to work out. But there's always some reason that you do see and that's why you keep going. But you can't really reach this goal because there is no real actual goal. You keep lifting man-made weights, you keep pumping yourself up.
8:55 It's as if they believe that there's some point which they are going to reach when they are going to be satisfied and happy at last, but it's never going to come, and that's why it's such a vicious cycle.
[video] 9:05 And all around live a better, happier, more fulfilling life. We have been fed this line of horseshit that you're supposed to seek comfort, and I don't think you are.
9:15 I think... You're not supposed to SEE comfort? You naturally want to be comfortable. Every human on earth wants to feel comfortable. That's literally what everybody wants. Every animal wants it. Comfort is great for you. It's the definition of health, essentially.
[video] 9:32 You're supposed to seek lessons and you're supposed to seek difficult tasks and... So just like a minute and a half?
9:37 Yeah, seek something difficult. Who would do something like that? Only somebody who hates themselves. Only. Only.
[video] 9:45 That's crazy. and slowly a new wave of gym bro-esque content creators would come along who would talk about the gym and lifting weights but also would focus on self-improvement this would get the kind of tongue-in-cheek name of bro science or bro philosophy you'd have people like chris williamson and his podcast modern wisdom alex hormozy andrew huberman mike thurston hamza cole hastings these creators would talk more than just about fitness and bodybuilding but would venture into topics like business increasing your productivity various different health
10:14 Yeah, all of them are slaves and only want what other slaves want. You're a slave if you do bodybuilding and all of your other interests are probably slave-based, especially if you believe that bodybuilding is in any way good for you.
[video] 10:30 Practices, sleep and diet, ice plunges, sauna, and ultimately how to be...
10:35 Yes, sauna, again, seek difficulty, seek torture, hate yourself, destroy your body, age quickly. Morons, morons, morons. ...happy and manage the stresses of life whilst staying true to the gym bro... Literally everything that they do makes them unhappy though.
[video] 10:53 ...with the backing of this discipline being the gym.
10:57 Or it doesn't make them unhappy, they are already unhappy, which is why they torture their bodies and then it makes them feel even worse.
[video] 11:05 And maybe I can build my value by improving myself. All of these predetermined beliefs that you have in your mind start to challenge them. The fact that you hold yourself to high standards and you care about things like telling the truth or finding agency. These newer gym bros come across more as like a father or an older brother figure. Critics of the gym bro movement would often try and link it to red pill and manosphere communities who have seemed to have found their footing on YouTube making this very adversarial men versus women type of content. Videos on why you should never get back with your ex. Female nature.
11:36 Yeah, the content is horrible just because it's men versus women, not men together with women talking about how to make it work and everything. It's always fighting against each other.
[video] 11:48 Pick up artists in masculine frame. You just can't stop watching these red pill videos.
11:54 Red pill is absolute freaking garbage. Red pill is just blue pill. Look into black pill.
[video] 11:59 There is some crossover, but in reality most of these gym bro gym philosophy types are really just successful men trying to give advice to other men. But it seems that any association with the masculinity conversation would often just all be lumped together by its critics. Man, that's the problem with manosphere is that there's grifters in the manosphere that aren't actual real men. And by real men, I mean they don't have resolve.
12:18 Yeah, you're a real man, you hate yourself, you want pain in your life, and that's what men are supposed to strive for? What are you trying to say, man? Jesus.
[video] 12:29 On a hike, they would get tired. You would have to leave them behind. On the 6th of December 2020, there was a viral tweet by a Twitter user called FlossyBabyJ, where they said, why do men start podcasts instead of going to therapy? So is it surprising that in this time, there are endless podcasts that have popped up offering more practical advice and solutions? Going from sauna to cold, 20 and three, three rounds. I fast pretty much every day.
12:58 Are you doing 16 hours? I would say getting to the- All of this is describing self-hate and torture. Going from the sauna to ice cold temperatures, fasting, which is literally just another word for starving yourself.
13:14 Even going to the gym in and of itself is about torturing yourself and hating yourself. Everything that these men, absolute loser slaves promote is so unmanly.
[video] 13:26 Wait till men realize they're completely useless. It opens the door for grifters that prey on vulnerable people acting like they have all the answers to life, but actually offering really bad, more damaging.
13:42 Those kind of women are misandrists.
[video] 13:44 And I don't mean ignore your emotions, I mean fucking integrate your emotions. Talk about them. Manning up also includes being mature about your emotions. This is me saying...
13:53 That's the only right thing that they said.
[video] 13:55 I don't know why they keep showing Hamza in this video. He's just... ugh.
[video] 14:15 gratification to delve deeper into their psychological shortcomings and address those things and become a loving role model to the people around them so with that i have one final thing to say and that is do you even live bro if you enjoyed this video be sure to leave a like and subscribe
14:30 No, I don't. I used to and I wish I didn't. Okay, what can we learn from this video? These so-called gym bros and men in general nowadays seek pain because they hate themselves, their lives are all about compensating because of how insecure they are, especially because of their genetics, which completely goes against how a masculine man is, who is happy, healthy, comfortable and never wants any pain in their lives, seeing as they don't hate themselves, they try to avoid pain at all costs. Of course, when there is danger and when there's a risk that you could be injured, you will of course not be afraid of it, but these gym bros and the men of today are very afraid. Insecurity is also fear. They really care about how other men or women also see them, which is why they go to the gym and all of this stuff.
15:27 It's so incredibly funny, whereas a masculine man who has high testosterone, and these men don't in any way, which is why they inject synthetic testosterone and who knows what, they really don't care about what anybody thinks about them, and that's really what they portray and project, so to speak. That's what they radiate, whereas all of these men really radiate insecurity and just the painful lives that they have always had because of their bad genetics. It's hilarious. Thanks for watching.
