0:00 Hey, what's up? As requested by some of you guys, I'm going to be reviewing Joe Fazer's video called, I travel to the coldest city on the planet.

[video] 0:12 Minus 51 degrees Celsius. There is a city in Russia, more specifically Siberian Russia, which is the most isolated city on the planet. There's probably a reason why people move there. Typically, naturally, a human being wouldn't decide to live there.

[video] 0:48 but a place that 300,000 people call home. This is Oberabach. This, ladies and gentlemen, is Yakutsk, the coldest city on the planet.

[video] 1:15 Now, getting to this city is incredibly difficult. First was a six-hour flight to Istanbul, Turkey. Come on, come on. And from Turkey was a five-hour flight to Moscow, Russia. Oh, my God. Even here, it's freezing. That next morning, we drove to a different airport. Thank you very much. This was where I was boarding the final eight-hour flight to Yakutsk.

[video] 2:06 This is inside. It's the weirdest airport exit. This is a bit of a ghost town. I was now about to head outside for the first time in Yakutsk. My name's Joe. Good to meet you. This was Sian, by the way. He was our translator. Oh, my... Where did you...?

3:52 That's what I meant before. Nobody would actually voluntarily decide to live there. Don't get me wrong, if you grew up there, it feels like home. That's a different story. But I'm talking about the origin of this place. Typically, you would choose a way warmer place. When you look outside of the window at night, then it doesn't look like anybody is there or it doesn't look like anybody should be there.

[video] 4:55 Can we go inside? My hand is really cold. Can we go inside for a second? Fucking hell. Like, they're tingling a bit. Fucking hell. In the space of a few seconds, my hands had gone from incredibly cold to just completely numb. I couldn't feel them at all.

[video] 5:10 Your fingertips are very, very big and cold. Frostbite here is incredibly common. Is that OK? Yeah. Luckily, I just got first-degree frostbite, which is recoverable. Look at the difference in colour. This is the hand that felt cold and tingly. This is the other hand. I had to sit in that coffee shop for a good 30 minutes to let my body heat up. Once I've had a friend who was missing five of his toes on his left leg. He was running barefoot for, like, two minutes. Yeah, and he lost all his toes on his left foot. Yeah. There are so many extra challenges which need to be faced living in this city. What do the locals have to say about living here? How is life living in the coldest city on the planet? The fact that it's cold, it's our joy, it's our happiness, they heal us. So you like the cold? Of course, of course.

[video] 6:29 Verdict I got was that no one here was fazed by the cold. Do you find living here tough? For us, such cold is just way of life. That's normal for us, and we get used to it. I mean, me personally, I don't understand how you could get used to this. But then I met this guy. What made you move to Yakutsk in the first place? What was the crime that he committed, Sayan? He killed two people.

[video] 7:24 In hopes he wouldn't get caught, eventually got caught here, served 20 years, and when he got out, he was so used to the cold that he decided to stay. Do you enjoy living in Yakutsk? No.

7:37 The snow can be beautiful, it's just that you cannot even really be outside for long to enjoy it. You cannot actually comfortably enjoy it. Even looking at it is not really possible in a comfortable way because you're always confronted by the cold, your environment.

[video] 9:33 I'd have to leave it to dry for literally only a minute. That is mad. And as the sun set in Yakut, I got into some fresh clothes, laid up over that and went on a night out. This is warm. Is this warm? Yeah. Is this warm? Yeah.

9:55 It's obviously not warm because they are wearing tons of clothes, but I understand what they mean. Still, I think that you kind of go into denial when you live in a place like that, seeing as... it's your home maybe you study there you work there your family is there what else are you gonna do admit that you don't like it there that you would want it to be warmer that you would want to be somewhere else no of course not I am literally freezing my tics off right now

[video] 14:10 The city is clearly doing fine. But what about the little villages, dotted around Siberia, isolated on their own, truly in the middle of nowhere?

[video] 14:21 All right, it's pretty early right now. We're currently about to embark on a six-hour road trip deep into Siberia to a small remote village. How cold is the village? Minus 50. Minus 51. It feels like minus 61. It feels like minus 61? Yes. Pretty nervous about this one, I'll be honest.

[video] 14:40 How safe are the roads here in Siberia? So the further out we go, the more dangerous the roads get? Due to the extreme cold, the steam coming from other cars really affected the visibility. This wasn't even a road anymore. The ground was literally ice and snow.

[video] 15:29 Sasha is a local of this village. Minus 50 degrees Celsius. Feels like minus 61. Is this cold for you? Just look at this place. You can't see anything ahead of you. That jump from minus 40 yesterday to minus 50 today is very noticeable. The village is so much colder. but with it being completely isolated hundreds of miles away from the city, how different is life here? Sasha had kindly invited me into her home. My lunch was already prepared. Now, unlike in the city, the diet of the villagers is all just food that they've sourced themselves. Fish shavings are one of the most popular meals that people eat, and you just eat it frozen.

[video] 16:09 Mm, those are crunchy. Just tastes like an ice cube dipped in salt. Okay, I wasn't the biggest fan of the fish shavings, but a lot of this food was delicious.

16:22 they look at it with such curiosity maybe they don't realize what it is because of the red sauce you have seed slime at the bottom and then beans on top of the seed slime beans are also seeds meaning that it's seeds with a red sauce It's interesting how the slaves get to eat all the seeds with red sauces to imitate animals and they play these kindergarten sports. They are allowed to participate in these surrogate activities. And the ones who tell them to do all of that and to eat all of this, do the real thing.

[video] 17:09 Now for the water that I'm drinking. I'm standing on a lake right now, obviously completely frozen, and this is where they get their drinking water from. The frozen lake is cut up into ice blocks. You cannot get much purer than that. Every family has a weekly stash of ice, which if they want to start drinking, they bring it inside and let it melt. This is the only option because piping systems will just freeze up. And due to the limited water, showers are not a thing here. Special types of saunas are used where the intense heat is meant to cleanse open pores and detoxify the body using a fraction of the water that a shower would. If you're rich in the village, you'll have a private sauna like this one, but most go to the public sauna. And if you need the toilet at any point...

[video] 17:52 I was a unique experience sewage systems also don't exist here because it's physically too cold so you go into one of these shacks outside do your business into a hole in the ground and that business freezes instantly so there's no smell oh right that's funny

18:39 Because it makes the man stronger, I assume. Bear meat is probably very good. I've heard from people that it tastes really good. I've never had it, unfortunately. I wish that I could try it someday.

The electricity lines go on for hundreds of miles back to Yakutsk. You've got everything you need here.

19:49 Right exactly and that's how it is when you don't know a different kind of life then you just don't know any better and that's kind of how it's supposed to be naturally although People would wander, explore and look for different places, but oftentimes they would simply live their whole life in the same area, obviously not in the same house exactly necessarily, but they wouldn't go from what we know as Russia today to

[video] 20:28 There's definitely a lot of challenges which this village faces due to the extreme cold and extreme isolation. The people I met all just seemed so happy. I mean, I guess out here, cut off from almost everything, there's a sense of peace that you can't get anywhere else.

20:52 Yes, they have a good community. This is what you need in your life. Obviously, they feel good. They also eat kind of good food.

21:11 That was a good video, I liked it. Joe Fazer for the most part creates good videos as far as the atmosphere goes, but usually he talks a lot of nonsense, especially when it comes to food.

21:33 Didn't they also eat raw fish before? The frozen fish is usually raw. I have already made videos about Yakutsk, but his video was actually the best one about this place. Not necessarily the most detailed one, But as I said, his content as such is actually good. Imagine if he would be not even necessarily eating raw meat, even if he would be promoting eating animals in general. Instead, he promotes chocolate, grain sludge, pizzas and all of this garbage in his videos. That's the biggest problem with his content. Then again, he's still young. It's not as if he's necessarily doing this on purpose. He's still learning. People's opinions change like crazy when they are in their 20s.

22:31 Sometimes when you're 30, you look back at what you believed when you were 20. And you cannot even believe it. It's as if you cannot even recognize yourself anymore. I hope that he will mature over the years. I hope that his true nature will shine through more. And I hope to see content which actually shows the so-called truth more. content which actually provokes people's thoughts instead of showing what we already see all around us. We don't need more videos of the same, of people eating slime made out of seeds telling people that vegetables are good for you.
