The Earth's Population Is Collapsing - Lowest Fertility Rates in Human History @Russell Brand

0:00 Yo guys, as requested, I'm going to review a video by Russell Brand. It's called Jaw Dropping Population Collapses Coming.
[video] 0:07 Birth rates are declining, and in less than a hundred years, countries like Spain and Japan could have half as many people as they have now. How can that be a right-wing or left-wing talking point? What's going on? Elon? I can't stand listening to this guy. I'm only doing it because it's an interesting topic.
[video] 0:37 on this channel, why don't you subscribe, why don't you? Apparently the fall in birth rates is a very real thing. There's a new documentary about it which looks into it at depth, which tries to be just a cold scientific analysis. But you can't have cold scientific analysis now. Everything is hotly politicized. But let's have a look at this birth rate issue and the impact it's going to have on your planet. And our cities are going to be choked with people and they will be impossible places in which to live and the explosions will be even worse. Most people think we have like too many people on the planet, but actually this is an outdated view.
[video] 1:05 Coming from the world of data science, I felt I understood populations are going up and that that's a problem. When I saw what was actually happening, I couldn't sleep. I think that the biggest problem the world will face in 20 years is population collapse.
1:19 Collapse. How could it be? It's interesting that Elon Musk says that, seeing as everything that he does goes against humanity. The AI, the robots, the Tesla cars, which are basically driving microwaves. A few drives in a Tesla and you're going to be infertile, guaranteed.
[video] 1:36 that suddenly countries are having so few children. I needed to go and find out. There are obviously chemical factors and social factors. We know that male fertility is decreasing, female fertility is decreasing.
1:48 It's decreasing mostly because of the unnatural diets that we eat nowadays. We eat man-made diets instead of eating natural food. That's the main reason people are becoming infertile. And when you become infertile, you're also not hormonally, biochemically interested in having children. That's why a lot of men, but especially women today will say that they don't want to have children. What's really going on is that their bodies are not creating the right chemicals, which signal the body to have children. They literally biochemically don't feel like they have this need.
[video] 2:21 I think we are aware that the way that a culture measures significance and value has shifted, that there is a kind of pricing of working, of females working as being significant and important.
2:32 Yes, it's called slavery.
[video] 2:34 It's not about female or male power. Humans are generally enslaved and essentially forced to work.
[video] 2:50 I wonder what role nature has at all at this point. On one side of the argument, you have this enshrinement of ecology through the climate change movement. Elsewhere, the nature of human beings as animals or as spirits or as creatures of this planet has become detached somehow. We shouldn't just because we're born this or born that have to live within that framework. And I'm certainly not offering an opinion on a subject that's become one of the most defining and...
3:09 A natural and fertile human being, again, it's not about male or female, wants to reproduce. Almost every human being wants to be intimate with another human being, which means that your body wants to reproduce. That's the purpose. Yes, there are humans nowadays who are biochemically different, let's just say, who don't want to be intimate with anybody. And you could say that they don't want to reproduce. It would be a fair point, but there's very few people like that out there. If you want to be intimate with somebody, it automatically means that you want to reproduce.
[video] 3:44 Exactly. That's a very good point by Russell. I never thought that I would say that because he talks so much nonsense. But yes,
4:01 Humans always appeal to nature. Humans want natural food, they want natural sleep, they want their surroundings to be as natural as possible. There's incredibly many examples, because all that we want at the end of the day is to have a natural and happy life. But when it comes to relationships and reproduction, then all of a sudden some people say, no, we don't have to follow nature to be happy or healthy, which is nonsense.
[video] 4:26 Here is primarily a demographic shift. We have an aging population that don't have a workforce to look after them and don't have children to replace them. So ultimately, you're talking about economics and the distribution of resources. Of course, the solutions that will be offered, I suppose, will ultimately be technological. The fact is that we should be addressing at some point... What is the quantitative value of ongoing life? Why do you want people to stay alive forever and ever? Now, of course, if it's someone that I love, like my own mother or father, of course, I want them to live as long as possible, as I'm sure you do with your relatives. Let me know in the comments and the chat.
4:56 People don't want to live as long as possible because they are unhappy. They are doing everything to shorten their lifespans.
[video] 5:03 But essentially, the value of life is experiential. What is the experience of your life like? How do you feel? Is it meaningful? Are you connected to yourself, to other people, to purpose? Are you happy? Is essentially what I'm asking you. It feels now that what our lives have become is so desacralized and secularized that we live lives of the fulfillment of tasks. I'm not sure how these tasks have been set. Well, I am sure they're cultural and economic tasks that don't, in my opinion, connect deeply to essence, meaning, purpose, or even nature.
5:30 Wow, I absolutely agree with him. That's basically what I talk about in my videos. That's the main point of my videos. All of the tasks which are given nowadays in society are man-made, obviously, which don't fulfill you, and only nature can fulfill you, and that also includes having children.
[video] 5:49 What you usually don't think about is what you do in a world where the playgrounds are empty and the nursing homes are all full. I keep oscillating between the idea of having my own children or adopting. Ready to adopt in this particular moment? Like right, right now, now, now? Probably not.
6:05 If I would have kids now, I will have to change all my life. Wasn't she like almost 40 years old or did she simply look old? Why would she now start thinking about having children?
[video] 6:16 From a cultural perspective, the value of children and the family can of course be critiqued and analyzed. Some people say that the nuclear family is a cultural construct, that tribal living is more native to our kind, to our species, where there are numerous relatives of multiple generations looking after the young and participating in child rearing.
6:35 Yes, the whole family would be looking after the babies, the children.
[video] 6:40 ...comes to procreation. It's so deeply embedded in our coding. Even if you want to look at this in a solely material, rational, and let's say from a biological perspective, procreation is pretty significant, I would say. The same as eating, defecating, procreating, fornicating, things that seem...
6:58 Yes, exactly, like I said, whenever you want to be intimate with somebody, it's your body wanting to reproduce with that specific human being. That's it, there's nothing else to it.
[video] 7:10 ...take place on the level of the animal body that are not to do with the individual actually, are beyond the individual identity. But I feel like...
7:19 Individual identities? What is that even? That's more of a social construct anyway.
[video] 7:24 Our culture has become so politicized that we are unable as a group to have a shared analytic of what being human is. They separate from our kind of oppositional left v. right, progress v. tradition type politics. My personal position is you as an individual are worthy of respect and you as an individual should be free to live your life however you want to. And I think to increasingly politicize those areas of the conversation makes it difficult to have a shared cultural agreement around what human beings are.
7:50 Absolutely, I agree. It's about human nature, left, right, whatever, that's all irrelevant. And every human being should learn, understand, somehow there should be some kind of education when it comes to this. You should learn this in school maybe, that yes, you can live your life however you want to, you can be an absolute slave also, whatever. You should simply understand, again, whether you're a man or a woman, it doesn't matter, that if you don't have children, you're going to be miserable and your whole life will seem empty. As long as you understand that you can choose to do whatever you want, just always know that when you feel empty, it's because you don't have children. You can continue living like that, that's okay. It's the same with food. You should understand that you're depressed, malnourished, because you don't eat raw animal organs, it's because you're not eating your natural food.
8:46 You can feel miserable, you can eat a vegan diet for example, but just understand that you're sick because of the veganism. As long as people would understand all of this and simply choose to be sick and depressed, unhappy and so on without children, then it would be all fine, but The problem is that people are not educated about this and don't realize that they are sick and unhappy because they don't follow nature. That's the whole problem here.
[video] 9:12 I call this a birth gap, Matt. I haven't seen anybody do this before. Wow. Gosh, it's kind of scary. I'm pessimistic because I don't think people realize what's going to happen.
9:28 I guess the map was showing the population decline or the possible decline in the future because especially Europeans are having very little children and this is for sure true and that's why the population statistics don't make much sense but we can get more into that, we'll see what they say.
[video] 9:45 I don't know how or when it's gonna stop. I want to emphasize this. The biggest issue in 20 years will be population collapse. Here's some information that pieces together the salient points from that documentary so we can understand the argument succinctly for ourselves. The world is ill-prepared for the global crash in children being born, which is set to have a jaw-dropping impact on society, say researchers. Falling fertility rates mean nearly every country could have shrinking populations by the end of the century. And 23 nations, including Spain and Japan, are expected to see their populations halve by 2100. Countries will also age dramatically with as many...
10:16 There's incredibly many reasons why it's like that now. Obviously, like I said, people are simply sick and that's why they are infertile. The other problem is that nowadays in society women focus on their careers instead of how it was even 100 years ago when they were simply taking care of the children and the man was working. That's still how it is in many Muslim countries, but most definitely not in Europe anymore. Then you try to have a child in your 30s, but by the time you have trouble conceiving, obviously. Not that it should be like that naturally, but because people are so sick nowadays, by the time you're 30, you're already too sick to have children a lot of times.
[video] 10:53 People turning 80 as they are being born. So certainly it appears that there are demographic shifts and changes on, well, not even on the horizon, happening now. The fertility rate, the average number of children a woman gives birth to is falling. If the number falls below approximately 2.1, then the size of the population starts to
11:10 Yes, that's exactly the problem and 2.1 wouldn't even work. You need to have two children as a couple to account for yourselves when you die, for the population to remain the same. The problem is, of course, that tons of people die before having children. There's a lot of child deaths, millions of people who have never had any children die in their 20s or 30s. All of the couples that are having children would have to account for these people, which means that they would have to have five to ten children at least to account for all of the deaths. That's not what's happening whatsoever. When you look at these websites which are supposed to display the population numbers, let's look at some. Here we have a random website which is supposed to display the population of the Earth, 8 billion plus. It's based on absolutely nothing, no proof whatsoever, and as
12:02 We can see by the birth rates this number is impossible, and then when we go to this website, the number is completely different, but whoever goes to either of these websites will believe that that's the exact number, but they don't realize that these numbers are completely made up. Purely mathematically, it makes zero sense that the population of the Earth is increasing.
[video] 12:24 In 1950, women were having an average of 4.7 children in their lifetime.
12:28 Yeah, and back then the population wasn't even supposedly increasing by as much. Now, with the lowest fertility rates ever in the history of humanity, it's supposedly increasing so incredibly much, it's so illogical.
[video] 12:43 Researchers at the University of Washington Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation showed that the global fertility rate nearly halved to 2.4 in 2017, and their study published in The Lancet projected a fall below 1.7 by 2100. Now, you can see why women would say, hang on a minute, what you're suggesting is that a woman's primary function is to bear and rear children. Why is it this area in particular
13:03 It's not that it's the primary function, it's that every human being, male and female, wants to have children and to reproduce. We naturally find babies very sweet, especially our own babies. We want to take care of them, we want to play with our children. It's basically the biggest joy on earth.
[video] 13:23 It's the function of the male body too. They were both created to reproduce. You can't leave out the male.
[video] 13:43 or women or particular groups within the gender of women would have issue with that because what civilization does is meddles with the flow of nature. As soon as we have medicine, as soon as we control animals, as soon as we control crops, we start to say, oh, we're not living entirely in harmony with nature, so why are you saying in this area we have to be in harmony with nature? I suppose the argument that documentaries make is because the species is under threat. I suppose the kind of technological...
14:04 That's an interesting point, and it does bring up the question, why should we care about having children, reproducing, which is natural for our bodies, but why do we then still live in cities nowadays? Why do something that's natural when you're living unnaturally? You can live in nature, the most ideal environment possible, but if you're gonna be eating rice with broccoli, then you're going to be super unhealthy. Whereas if you live in the city and eat raw meat, then you're still gonna be healthy. If you live in nature and don't have children, you're going to be absolutely miserable. The environment isn't gonna make it any better. Whereas if you live in the city and have children, you're going to be a lot happier. So when it comes to reproducing and what we eat, it's a lot more important than a lot of other unnatural stuff. So you just gotta make your life work the best way possible. A lot of people nowadays are sort of tied to the city by their jobs, relatives and whatnot.
15:03 You have to try to make the best out of your life and eating natural food and reproducing is a must.
[video] 15:11 ... will be artificial insemination, growing children in pods, we've already done a thing about that, haven't we, elsewhere.
15:18 That looks absolutely disgusting, horrible.
[video] 15:21 Further divorcing ourselves from nature, but perhaps the human project has been, particularly since civilization, one of creating distance from ourselves and the teleology that's taken us further away from the conditions of our origin. Let me know in the chat in the comments what you think about that. As a result, the researchers expect the number of people on the planet to peak at 9.7 billion around 2064 before falling down to 8.8 billion by the end of...
15:41 At least they admit that it's eventually gonna go down. In reality, it's been going down for over a hundred years for sure, ever since the so-called world wars.
[video] 15:52 the century. That's a pretty big thing. Most of the world is transitioning into natural population decline, researcher Professor Christopher Murray told the BBC. I think it's incredibly hard to think this through and recognise how big a thing it is. It's extraordinary. We'll have to reorganise societies. It's nothing to do with sperm count or the usual things that come to mind when discussing fertility. Instead, it is being driven by more women in education and work, as well as greater access to contraception, leading to women choosing to have fewer children.
16:14 They don't really choose to have fewer children, though. They get brainwashed to have fewer children because women get brainwashed to believe that children are expensive, which is so incredibly far from the truth. It's so incredibly cheap, you would be surprised. how cheap it is to have even 10 children. It's super easy. Besides that, in Europe, for example, the government supports you. In Germany, for example, you get quite a lot of money for having children. Whether you work or not, it's that they watch all of these Hollywood movies which portray childbirth as being so painful. I can understand why you would then be afraid of having children as a woman. Absolutely. It sounds scary, so much pain, but when you listen to interviews of women who had children at a natural age, not past 30, then you will hear that they had no pain. Not a little bit of pain, no pain at all. And that's how childbirth is supposed to be, naturally, obviously. It's not supposed to be something that you're afraid of.
17:13 If you were supposed to be naturally afraid, giving birth, then nobody would be giving birth naturally. Every woman would be afraid of it, but no woman in nature is afraid of it. Only modern women. Also, they will portray babies as if they cry all the time and all of the children are super annoying. And again, If you feed them a formula and cereal and whatnot, then yes, that's how they will be. If you feed them natural food, you breastfeed them long enough, then they won't be like that at all.
[video] 17:46 If it indeed is the result of the choice of individuals and how that plays out across our society, then, well, what do you do? suggest to women that they can't do that? I mean, what do you do? I guess you make different arguments about the culture. I reckon that the dream that your personal fulfillment is achieved through career is tangential to a bigger idea. You should be free. You should be free to be whoever you want to be. And I don't know that anymore if my working life is what gives me freedom. A lot of the time, I think you're imprisoned by this model. And how do you feel about your working life? Unless you have something vocational that gives you purpose, whatever your gender, I'm not sure that work is what gives you your purpose anymore, unless you know you've got to work in a hospice or you're helping people get well or you're teaching children, all of which align with the kind of roles we would have in a pre-civilised society.
18:29 Exactly. That's why it's mostly women who choose jobs which have to do with taking care of babies and children. The father would, of course, also be close to his children and want to take care of them. But the mother would be the one who would breastfeed the child, which means that she seeks this closeness to children, which is why... mostly women choose these kind of careers. In Japan, they have all of these herbivore boys, which are basically guys who eat mostly plant-based. No wonder that they don't have any testosterone flowing through their blood.
[video] 19:04 But perhaps the argument that this is entirely about the progression of a female's role in a traditionally male-led society and improvement in birth control is a limiting one. Perhaps increasing inequality.
19:17 How do we have a male-led society in any way at all? Maybe in some countries, but in Europe, it's a female-led society completely.
[video] 19:26 A culture where we loom between crises is having an impact on people's goals and spiritual aspirations. If you move from economic crash in 2008, having just had the 2001 attacks on the culture, endless war, pandemic, do people really want to have children? Perhaps the deeper spiritual sense that we're living in a culture...
19:46 Everybody who wants to be intimate with somebody wants to have children.
[video] 19:50 We should consider a decline in hope, a sense of spiritual despair, cultures that are falling apart more broadly, a crisis where we lurch from one crisis to another are all factors in making people not feel like they're all nests and have a bunch of babies because barely a day passes we're not contemplating the bloody apocalypse. But that's just what I think. Let me know what you think in the comments and the chat.
20:10 I'm surprised that I agreed with Russell Brand on so many things in this video, because I've seen some of the videos in the past and I didn't agree with anything. The main thing that you should realize is that human beings want to be intimate with one another because they want to reproduce. That's what your body is begging for, essentially. If you want it, you want to have children. The thing is that humans don't realize what a gift children are, and that's why they use contraceptives, which is, of course... really tragic seeing as children bring you the biggest joy on earth, essentially. Yes, you will be happy, possibly even euphoric, if you eat really natural, good quality food, but it's just an extra thing which will always be missing in your life if you don't see your own blood grow up, if you don't see your baby smile at you,
21:10 play with your children, all of that, a mother and a father enjoy that so incredibly much. And you really need to talk to people who already have children. But even then, you won't really be able to understand that, especially if you're biochemically sick and your body... is not producing the right chemicals, as I said throughout the video, to signal you that you actually should have children. That's unfortunately something that's gone wrong in our society because of how sick humans are in nature. There's no second thoughts. You're intimate with somebody, the goal is to have children, and then you're incredibly happy because you have the children. That's it. Nowadays it's very different. Thanks for watching.
