The Guy Who Made Running Popular Died of a Heart Attack at 52

0:00 Hey guys, somebody in the comments told me about this guy called Jim Fix. It turns out that this is the guy who made running, especially jogging and marathon running, popular in the 70s and early 80s. He was a very big deal. He appeared in many commercials and on TV programs. You gotta understand that people who still jog and run marathons nowadays do it because of him, seeing as he's the one who inspired all of the trainers. I'm going to watch a video from 1982. Two years after this aired, he actually died of a heart attack.

1:03 All of this garbage started decades ago. Humans never used to run for no reason at all, just to age and stress their bodies.

As a matter of fact, I probably had more questions than anyone else because when I started running, I weighed 215 or 220 pounds. Just the other day, I came across a couple of pictures of me at that time, I can't believe what I look like.

1:34 Yes, one of the main reasons people promote running in general is because of the weight loss, but they don't realize that this actually proves how unhealthy running and exercising in general is. What happens when you lose weight is that you consume yourself. You lose weight because you literally lose parts of your body, you lose your cells. That cannot by any definition be seen as healthy, but the reason it is seen as healthy is because modern slaves eat a lot of junk food and they actually gain weight, whereas humans in nature would never run for no reason, seeing as they try to maintain their weight. They don't want to die, and whenever you lose weight, you get closer to death. That may not be a concern to people who overconsume macronutrients, especially junk food, carbohydrates, but it is a concern in nature, which is why there's never been a case of humans exercising in nature.

And I had no thought of getting up to the point of racing or running a marathon I wonder what this doctor actually measured. That would have been interesting, but he's probably not gonna present anything.

Or, simpler and cheaper, you can simply check your pulse at your neck here, where it's very easy to feel, look at your watch, count the pulse beats for 10 seconds, and multiply by 6. Now I think we're ready to go running.

One doctor, Ralph Paffenbarger at Stanford University, has determined from his researches that if you run 20 miles a week, divided up any way you like it from day to day, you will improve your health markedly. And in particular, you will reduce your chances of having a heart attack by some 64%.

Well, I think we could begin by talking about what are some of the stresses on the body in terms of what sorts of systems of the body are most affected, and I think the ones that are... Most heavily stressed would be the circulatory system, that is the heart and the blood vessels that supply the oxygen to the exercising muscles.

5:24 The same way somebody who does bodybuilding adapts to lifting more and more weight. None of this in any way strengthens your body, it doesn't make it healthier, and when it comes to running, it only makes the heart weaker. What happens is that your cardiac output increases the more you run, and your troponin levels increase the more you run, which has also been proven over and over again. A marathon runner is gonna have very high troponin levels, which is what you measure after somebody has had a heart attack. They don't realize this and maybe back in the day, this guy also didn't know anything about it. That may be true, but nowadays we very clearly have proven because of biochemistry that marathon running or any extreme exercise is going to significantly increase your chances of a heart attack. Whereas lighter exercise is still going to increase your chances, but just not as much. The closer to nature you live, the less of a chance you're going to have. The less you exercise,

The person who's training every day and doing three to four to five miles of exercise is burning up fuels that must be replenished, and they can only be replenished by consuming carbohydrates, that is, the sugars and the complex carbohydrates of starch and all the good things of life. That is, instead of taking the carbohydrate in in your diet and converting it to fat, the exercising individual will take the carbohydrate in and store it as carbohydrate so you don't produce more fat.

6:56 You use up the sugar in the body for the exercise, you convert it into fat, if you don't move at all, which is what I was talking about before. We have this problem of weight gain because we don't do anything and eat a lot of carbohydrates, which are not even available in nature, whereas in nature you live a mostly sedentary lifestyle and you never even have this problem because you eat mostly meat. you can't really gain weight if you eat mostly meat. Whereas if you spike your insulin all of the time, then of course it's going to be a problem, which is why we eat horribly, which is the main reason we are sick, and then we believe that we need to exercise to lose this extra weight, even though it's actually gained because of how terribly we eat. Fix your diet instead of exercising. Also, glycogen is stored in the liver and the muscles. You can't store that much of it. If you're gonna run a lot, then you're simply gonna use it up, as I said.

Otherwise you could drink more water while running and you would be fine, but you're not going to be and this actually also increases your chances of a heart attack. Drinking water is going to dry out your body even more, which is why if you do sweat a lot, you should be drinking blood, raw milk, some kind of fruit juices, coconut water,

We've said that regular running is important. Just why is it important? But just as the body improves with exercise, so its condition declines if you don't exercise. If you go for one day without running, well, that's all right. You won't decline much. It'll be absolutely imperceptible. But go three days, four days, and it begins to show up.

[video] 9:53 So you want not to let more than a day go by without running. Many people find that it's most convenient if they run four days a week, in other words, every other day. I'm, I guess, a little more compulsive, and I just like to run every day, and I think many runners do. A lot of people ask whether it's more important to run a certain distance or to run at a certain speed. Particularly at the beginning, distance and the time you spend running is more important than the speed. You ought not, in fact, to think about speed at all. Simply don't push yourself. Once you get to the point where you're running two continuous miles every day, or just about every day, you're really capable of quite a bit of running because a very reliable rule of thumb says that you can run about three times your daily distance at any one time. So if you're running two miles a day, you can probably go out on any given occasion and run five miles or even six miles without too much trouble. You'll get tired, but you'll be able to do it.

10:49 How do you improve? What's the actual goal here? How many miles should you be able to run? If you want to run for 10 miles, why would you do that? What's the actual purpose? I assume that what he's saying is that the purpose is health. There's no explanation as to how it's supposed to be healthy. There's no proof. There's no arguments. It's just a religious belief that running is healthy. That's why these people run in the video. You can see the face expression. They are miserable. Such a miserable face expression. They are incredibly unhappy. They really want to stop running, but they have been brainwashed to do that. It was the same problem for Jim Fix. He was running for years. He was 50 in this video and two years later, at the age of 52, he died from a heart attack

Well, how do you improve beyond this two-mile point? First of all, you're going to have to start doing more running. You're going to have to put in more miles. There's no escaping it. There's no necessity for putting in those more miles, but if you want to improve, that's what you've got to do. So instead of going out and running two miles a day, perhaps you'll want to run two miles today and three miles tomorrow, two miles the following day, four miles the next day, and so forth, so that little by little, you increase. the overall amount of running you're doing. Now, as you run farther, you may find that from time to time you'll get tired or you want to have a drink of water, so you ask yourself, is it okay to stop or am I putting the whole thing right down the drain by stopping? It's perfectly all right to stop. You don't lose anything by stopping.

12:55 It's perfectly all right to listen to your body and to stop. It's also perfectly all right to not run at all, to listen to your body completely. Don't even begin doing something that your body hates. If you would always listen to yourself instead of other people and do exactly what you want to do, then you would never start to run or exercise in general. It would be impossible. if you wouldn't be brainwashed. The reason people exercise is only, and this should be clearly understood, only because of brainwashing. There is no other reason. You only do it because you were told, most likely by the media, that you should do it. You don't do it because you want to do it. There cannot be possibly any human on earth that would want to exercise. It's impossible, because when you're comfortable, you feel healthy and happy. When you're uncomfortable, when you're exercising, then you feel unhealthy and unhappy.

[video] 14:04 Add up your mileage just as you would if you didn't stop. You can even run two miles in the morning and two miles in the evening if you want to. What counts is total distance, not consecutive distance. Now, if you want to improve, you're also going to have to run faster. Now, running faster doesn't mean running faster all of the time. It means running faster only part of the time. And most experts who have looked deeply into this question recommend doing fast running only about 5% of the time, even if you're in extremely serious training. How fast is fast? Fast simply means getting to the point where you're breathing hard, where your muscles are experiencing a certain amount of discomfort, not excruciating discomfort, but where you know that you're doing some hard work. For most people, this means picking up the pace for a quarter of a mile or half a mile and then returning to their customary pace, doing that until they're fully recovered and then running fast again.

14:54 This was the mentality already back in the day. That's when it kind of started. Which is when people actually believed that feeling pain is good for you. All throughout human history we knew that pain is bad. Pain is unhealthy. Pain makes you unhappy. But ever since this started, pain was somehow associated with something good. It has some kind of benefits. Oh my god.

[video] 15:21 Do it every day. You can do it every third day. Every third day is plenty. Improving is also going to mean, I hate to tell you this because it's bad news, you're going to have to do more running on hills. There's nothing better for you, if you want to improve, than pushing up those hills. Don't baby yourself on the hills. Really go hard.

[video] 15:45 I've got some more bad news for you, and that is that you're never going to reach your maximum potential as a runner unless you get extremely thin.

16:29 The ending was actually a very good portrayal of the mentality of these people. He said that it makes him feel wonderful, yet his face expression, just like the face expression of everybody who exercises, was showing us that he feels terrible. If your body shows you that you feel terrible if you look in the mirror, then stop doing whatever you're doing. This applies to absolutely everything in life. If you see somebody else doing something, and they tell you it's good for you, it's healthy, it's gonna make you happy, and you see their face expression that it's actually not good for you, then you right away know, I shouldn't do it. Somebody tells you this green smoothie with all of these toxic ingredients is good for you, then they drink it and they can hardly take it. You know, okay, I shouldn't drink it.

17:19 The same way if somebody tells you, let's train for a marathon, and then when they train you see how exhausted, unhappy, miserable, terrible they look, then you know, okay, I shouldn't do this. You should understand that you're talking to somebody who's brainwashed, but people are completely disconnected from nature. they back in the day would have understood that if somebody is doing something so ridiculous such as running for no reason, that he's brainwashed, he has some kind of mental issues possibly, that there's just something wrong with him. But nowadays we just don't see that because everybody around us is doing something that's bad for them. Everybody is unhealthy and unhappy for the most part, which is why that's all that you see. And if that's all that you see, how can you differentiate anymore if you don't actually see happy and healthy human beings around you? Thanks for watching.
