0:00 Hi everyone. I was looking for videos of people taking ice baths, doing cold showers, but I almost didn't find anything except for this one video, which we will check out in a second. That's of course great. Maybe people understood that it's unhealthy? I doubt it. It's more likely that the trends simply wore off. We'll see how this guy will like it.

0:25 If I have a refund, I don't have to do this, right? I really don't want to do the cold, bro. Now I'm thinking about it. Why would you do it? You don't have to do anything that you don't want to do. If you don't do what you don't want to do in life, then you will be happy and healthy. It's great. Try it.

[video] 0:41 I'm not doing 15 minutes. I'm not doing 15 minutes. I'm not, I don't care. I'm not doing 15 minutes. Let's do another 25. For another 25, I'll do it. That was cerebral palsy, bro. Bro, it has condensation on the fucking head. There's literally condensation coming out. Oh my fucking god.

[video] 1:03 Bro, I'm actually checking, and I'm past the weight limit for this ladder, and I just don't want to damage this. Right. All right, we'll just get this over with, bro. I don't know why I'm fucking increasing this shit. So you're going seven and a half right now? No, I'm doing ten. Ten minutes for it. They did 25. Get ten. You scammed yourself, okay? You either scammed them or you scammed yourself. No, I'm going to do eight. I'm going to do eight. I'm going to do eight. All right. Fuck.

1:29 He literally doesn't want to do it, yet he still does it. Because it's trendy, because he wants to prove something to the guys, to the people watching the stream.

1:43 It's just very big behavior when you do something for other people, even though you don't want to do it. It means that you're insecure. You're not a man.

[video] 2:04 Oh, should we set a timer? Yeah, bro! Set it! Should we set one? Yeah, bro, come on, bro, set it. Alright, the timer's set. Eat some ice. Did you set it, nigga? It's set. Did you set it? It's set. Do you really want me to read the chat? Okay, I'll read a little. Head all the way under, pussy. Can't help but to cry. LMAO. Yes, king. Get that head in there.

2:34 Man, I can just see, I can almost feel how painful it is, because it really is actually extremely painful when you're cold and he's in freezing cold water.

[video] 2:47 Chat, let me do a different challenge, please. Let me do a different challenge, deadass. I just can't do cold, bro. Like it's...

2:59 No human being on Earth can do it. Some people are simply better adapted to it, in the sense that they will be able to withstand it for longer. But nobody can, of course, live in there, because it's just not a temperature which is biologically healthy for human beings.

[video] 3:18 Oh my god, man

3:48 I didn't realize how problematic this can be, that you can even die from it. You're great guys you have around you, man.

[video] 4:02 That's messed up, knock him over on the side of a dock, he might just like flop, hit his head and just go into the water. The only part is my testicles. That won't be an issue for me. I won't be able to knife. Chat said 12 more minutes.

[video] 4:15 I don't know. I mean, how much? Yeah, four minutes. All right. See, you're chilling. You don't even feel it no more. I'm going to fill this up with you. Gabe, you doing it? Doing what? This. Doing this? Well, I have a camera. Do I hold the camera? I'm going to go grab this football. Oh, you want me to do it with you? I ain't doing all that. Come on, Gabe. No, you want me to feed you some ice? No. 30 seconds.

[video] 4:44 What are you doing in there? But I remember when I was in there, he kept pushing my shoulders down. Five, four, three, two, one. Help me get out.

5:00 Oh my God, man. Did you see how they applauded? They knew that something is wrong. I just... You want to get off on the left? Left or right? Left or right? Left or right?

5:15 And by the way, this is exactly how you would die if you would fall into cold water, except that there's way more of a shock then. You're not as warm already in winter, and then you can't get out anymore because you can't move anymore. That's exactly how people die.

[video] 5:36 Just throw him on the deck.

5:50 He didn't feel anything anymore because he was partly frozen. Ah, these people, man. It's just... Absolute self-destruction.

6:06 Look, and then they take a photo with him and... Literally right after this, you should have cut ties with all of these people. These are not friends, they're not even... they're nothing. These are not people to ever spend any time with or in any way associate yourself with.

6:32 He's literally not okay, he almost died, you just saw that.

[video] 6:36 Well, we're going back upstairs. Going back to the hot tub? Appreciate y'all. Just snap back in. Careful right here. You got it? Quit tickling him, Diego. He quit walking. He looks like that one guy. Are you walking to me? Your feet are frozen. Yeah. You want me to suck your toes warm? Gotta wait for that.

6:58 They just keep making jokes as if it's funny.

[video] 7:03 Huh? Go ahead, Josiah. Your turn. Oh, I was just thinking, like, we do have that next turn which is coming up, and I probably should go do setup for that. Let's go, Josiah.

7:14 What does it also mean, challenge? Why would you do a challenge? Why would you try to impress random strangers, people? Only if you're insanely insecure. That's the only explanation. Otherwise, you don't care what people think about you.

7:33 Yeah, this guy... Firstly, there's not much ice left in there, but secondly, he has a lot of body fat. It's very different.

[video] 7:45 Yeah, very different story. Now we're gonna check out...

8:10 The reason people do it, there's these two doctors who recommend it to people. This is where people get these ideas. They believe that it's healthy because doctors, some kind of scientists, talk about it as if it's good for you.

[video] 8:27 It's cold out today. Is that good for me or bad for me? Well, that's an interesting question. Okay, we're talking about cold plunges today.

8:33 The cold is bad for every animal. It's just that some animals, such as wolves, have the fur. They were naturally created to withstand the cold. But if they wouldn't have the fur, then they would feel cold and then they would die. The cold is always bad. Extreme heat or cold is bad for you.

[video] 8:55 Welcome to Talking With Docs. I'm Dr. Paul Zalazow. I'm Dr. Brad Wien. So cold immersion, really popular on social media.

9:03 Thankfully, not really popular anymore. Hardly anybody is doing it this winter, which is great to see.

[video] 9:08 ...getting really cold for purported health benefits. Polar bear club. Yeah. They used to do it once a year, though. They weren't doing it like three times a week. No, it's on a regular basis, getting cold. Okay. So the thought is that by providing this cold stress to our body, our bodies can adapt to the stress and...

9:23 Yes, your body can adapt to it somewhat. Again, of course, it cannot actually adapt to it because eventually you die, obviously. But the more you do it, the longer you will be able to sit in ice-cold water or take a cold shower, whatever you want to do. Depends on how stupid you are.

[video] 9:41 React in a way that is good for your health, not just in the moment, but for weeks, months, years, let's say. Is there finally a benefit for living in our climate, in this cold climate?

9:52 There's no benefits of living in Canada in general. The climate is obviously a big reason not to live there.

[video] 10:00 If you go outside without the appropriate attire, you could die. So that's a good question. In the winter. And we can certainly talk about that as we go. But yeah, so more and more scientific research has been done on this to assess how our bodies respond to the cold and whether it's actually good for you if it's just people that just like pain. Because I don't love the cold.

10:15 Nobody likes pain. The whole purpose of pain is for you to know what not to do. That's naturally the purpose of pain. Something happens to you, you feel pain, you never do it again. Cold, really.

[video] 10:29 I'm not a big fan of the cold.

10:31 It's a learning mechanism, in other words.

[video] 10:33 But we have talked in the past about sauna and the benefits of getting too hot. If I had to choose about getting too hot or too cold in this controlled setting, I'd probably pick neither. Yeah, I was just going to say, I feel like cold is exponentially more comfortable, more uncomfortable for me. Yeah. Okay, so let's run through the list of things that are beneficial and then we'll talk about kind of how cold it has to be, how long you have to do it for, how many times a week.

10:56 Again, there's no benefits to saunas or ice baths because it's extreme heat and extreme cold. Your body wants to be at its natural body temperature. That's when you feel the best. That's when you're comfortable. Comfortable means healthy.

[video] 11:14 You should do it and kind of how you do it. All right, so one of the things that we've seen in the literature is jumping into the cold water, suddenly getting cold, releases these cold shock proteins, also known as mRNA motif binding.

11:29 That's interesting that they mention it. Heat shock proteins are released when your body is starving or when you are fasting on purpose, not because you're brainwashed to starve against your own so-called will, Do we have free will? That's a whole topic of its own, but you are for sure manipulated into doing it.

11:52 It's just a response to stressful conditions, that's it. It's a super, super bad sign if heat shock proteins are released.

[video] 12:03 Yes, yep.

12:16 Yeah, it's just, again, a response to the stress of being exposed to the cold, which is unhealthy for the body. That's why you, in the end, end up getting a cold or pneumonia and so on. That's why you get it in winter, because of the cold.

[video] 12:35 Help you survive. Yeah, reduce and repair cellular damage and protect you in a healthy way. Cold shock protein.

12:41 Yeah, because you damage yourself and then you need to repair yourself. The same way when you drink a ginger shot, you produce these antibodies in response to the toxicity of the ginger, and then these people say it's immune boosting. Same exact logic. The logic of somebody insanely dumb. What else can you say? When you literally biochemically see that it's a response to stress, or a response to toxicity in the case of ginger, and you still say, drink ginger shots or go into the cold, then you're dumb, just by definition. You're literally doing the opposite of what you're supposed to do. That's stupidity.

[video] 13:21 One of the benefits. Okay, number two is norepinephrine, and this is what increases your respiratory rate, your heart rate. And also, they say that it may regulate mood as well, but it's part of that fight or flight. There's epinephrine and norepinephrine.

13:33 Yeah, exactly. In this case, flight, you want to get out of the cold. You fall into a cold lake, you want to get out of it. That's why.

13:45 How is that good for you? These guys.

[video] 13:49 But norepinephrine specifically binds to beta receptors on your brown fat, which is a key part.

13:55 Yeah, because you need to use it. Because you're cold, you use it to produce body heat.

[video] 14:02 of cold plunging and activates this brown fat. Yeah, actually the brown fat is, compared to the white fat, unlike the brown meat and the white meat in a chicken or a turkey, it's just these brown, the brown fat is the one that has these mitochondria, which of course is where energy production is happening in your cells. And so this is what creates thermogenesis. And actually, interestingly, the amount of brown fat we have is actually very small.

14:24 But so far, you're just giving very good reasons to never expose yourself to the cold. I thought that this is a video about the benefits.

[video] 14:35 It's like 50 to 100 grams. That's like a chocolate bar's worth of brown fat. And it's located on your neck, on your shoulder blades, and down your spine. And the thought is that it's deposited there as an efficient way to provide thermogenesis. So it's creating heat without shivering when...

14:50 Yeah, because it's there for these vital body parts, the organs.

[video] 14:56 You're exposed to cold. And this is what allows animals to hibernate. So bears and hedgehogs, they have a lot of brown fat. It allows them to generate heat while hibernating, as well as whales deal with living in a very, very cold environment. They have a lot of brown fat. Right, and this is energy dependent, so you are burning energy trying to stay warm. It does take energy, you're just converting energy to heat. Energy is calories, and calories is stuff you eat, so you are, I guess, burning energy just trying to stay warm.

15:18 Right, and just... Yep, which is stress by definition.

[video] 15:22 Beware, don't try to gain a whole bunch of extra weights and get brown fat because it doesn't really work that way. Some of the studies have shown that exposure to cold increases your brown fat activity in the range of 10% to 30% increases your metabolism. So this is very good for us. It actually burns extra calories in a small number. But it's hard to actually convert your white fat to brown fat. And it's very difficult to measure. They use a very fancy test called a PET scan that really measures more your brown fat activity than the actual amount of brown fat. But some studies say that you can slowly increase this by small amounts, the actual amount of brown fat. But it's really getting those mitochondria, which are actually what make your fat look brown. Okay, so this cold plunge is actually...

15:55 How in any dimension is that a benefit? Literally, give me one thing that's beneficial about burning your brown fat, which is literally only there for you to survive in stressful situations, which your body doesn't want to be in. Where's the benefit? Where is the benefit? Where are any benefits? You're saying that your body responds to it because you're in an extremely unhealthy situation, but where's the benefit? What's wrong with these guys?

[video] 16:27 Okay. We've talked about antioxidants in the past and kind of these chemicals that sweep up all the free radicals that can do damage to your cells. Yeah. And there's some evidence.

16:35 Yeah. And in this case, it's the cold doing damage. Go on. Oh my God, I'm going to die in a second.

[video] 16:40 Thoughts and some thinking that this cold plunging increases your antioxidants.

16:43 Yeah, because it's a response to the extreme cold, which is unhealthy for you.

[video] 16:48 It's just so many chronic diseases, as is the next one, which is inflammation, so... That's it, and they just go to the next point.

16:58 Worst video I've ever seen, maybe? Worst video about the cold I've ever seen. Yeah, for sure, by far. This reduces inflammation, where they've done... Reduces inflammation, even though it literally increases it afterwards. To be fair, in the moment, because you're almost paralyzed, as it was in the first case, your body doesn't function anymore, which is why it reduces inflammation, in the sense that your body stops working. That's not a good thing, obviously, as you could see, but afterwards, absolute chaos. The stress is through the roof, which is exactly why you produce these antioxidants. These antioxidants actually perfectly prove why this point is wrong.

[video] 17:39 Studies that shows reduction in CRP, IL-6, and tumor necrosis alpha. These are blood markers of the measure of our inflammation. And as much as we don't totally understand exactly how inflammation is bad for us, we certainly know that it is.

17:52 Inflammation is very good for you. It's a response to whatever is damaging you. Without inflammation, you would essentially die. You need inflammation. How are you going to heal anything? Without inflammation. Your body produces inflammation. Your body doesn't produce anything that's bad for you. There's nothing. Everything that your body does is good for you.

[video] 18:16 It contributes to many chronic diseases. So if we can lower our inflammation doing this, then it's good for our health.

18:21 It's a bad sign if you have inflammation because that's a sign that you're doing something wrong. You shouldn't have the inflammation, but if you do, it's only good because it's a response to whatever you're doing wrong.

[video] 18:36 And the last one is something called a hormetic response. And both heat and cold do this. And what this is, is when your body is exposed to low-level stresses.

18:45 It doesn't matter what stresses, that's hormesis. It's when you adapt to something that's bad for you. Again, you can't fully adapt to it, but your body tries as much as possible. That's literally hormesis. That's super bad for you.

[video] 19:02 it allows you to develop adaptive processes that protect you. And this is all considered part of your generalized health and healthy aging. So in controlled fashions, this can be good.

19:12 What are you talking about? Why would you stress yourself even more and age more? All stress ages you. Why would you want it? You want to stay away from stress and hormesis, starvation, extreme cold, extreme heat, all stress, all stress is bad for you. Exercise,

[video] 19:30 It's like being uncomfortable is actually good for you because it gets you.

19:33 How is being uncomfortable good for you when it's literally bad for you and you didn't name any benefits of the cold?

[video] 19:39 You're more comfortable. That's it.

19:42 What? What?

[video] 19:46 I'm feeling uncomfortable right now. Okay. Staying a little too close.

19:49 Yeah. I'm feeling uncomfortable watching somebody so dumb. That's about it.

[video] 19:55 And now, is it the same thing if you have to jump in a cold lake to get this effect? Or can you do this going out in the cold weather, for example?

20:05 It doesn't matter. Cold weather, cold shower, it doesn't matter. Whenever your body feels uncomfortable, you're stressed, which is bad for you, it ages you and reduces your lifespan. That's why your body reacts in this way, by producing the antioxidants, burning your brown fat, and so on. Everything that they named proves that it's bad for you. And these are doctors. These are the doctors of today. I just remembered that. No doctor on earth would have said this even 50 years ago. They all knew how bad it is. And now they come along and say, it's good for you. We proved that it's bad for you, but it's good for you. This actually reminds me, this was shortly before I started eating raw meat. I was doing a cooked keto.

20:51 very low carb, and I went out into the cold in the evening, I filmed videos, went for walks, whatever, and I only had a hoodie on, sometimes even a t-shirt, and this was December, as it is right now, and I didn't feel cold, my body was very overheated, I was also doing one meal a day at the time, And that's because my body was simply using the brown fat for the heat. The thing is that a few...

21:28 I'm not sure when exactly, but for sure a few years after, because I didn't try that ever since, I was feeling very cold. Even when it got only a little bit cold, I really couldn't stand the cold anymore. I think that I simply used up my brown fat at the time.

21:51 And of course, yes, your body needs to adapt to it. It becomes easier. But I started traveling to warmer countries also. afterwards because I really couldn't stand the cold anymore. It's pretty interesting because I was exposing myself to too much cold almost every day and it was just too much for my body. My point is simply that I experienced this myself and I know that Your body can adapt to a lot, but it's not thriving, it's not comfortable. It's simply stressed and trying to adapt to the stress, but you will never feel good. And in the case of the brown fat, eventually you can use it up and maybe you will regain it, maybe not. Maybe you will not tolerate the cold anymore.

22:41 I wouldn't recommend doing this, obviously, anyway, but in general, exposing yourself to anything that's uncomfortable in life, whether that's extreme cold, heat, exercise, toxic food, coffee, tea, anything. In your life, you should do exactly what you want to do. Because stress is simply you not doing what you want to be doing. I have a video on Telegram explaining this. It's called stress equals not doing what you want to do. Because that's what it is. And this is extreme stress. And extreme stress is of course even worse for you.

23:21 Horrible doctors, whatever these guys are, I can't even believe it.

23:27 They literally give you five points proving that it's bad for you and say, do it, it's good for you. Literally, they say you will have this and this response. to the cold, because your body reacts badly to it. You're uncomfortable, you're stressed, it's bad for you. But go and do it. Oh, at what temperature? And then you just talk about which temperature. That was the rest of the video, which I didn't even show. It was nonsense. I could hardly even stand the first five minutes. Thanks for watching, guys.
